engines from a cb550 compatibility with a cb500?

i have an opportunity to acquire a CB550 engine for parts almost free but i have a 71 CB500 would this be a great buy?

I'm not sure what is interchangeable between the 550 engine that could be used on my 500 is it a GO a NO go?

Is the 550 engine complete? If it is, should just drop right into 500 frame

Snag it. The 550 engine is much improved.

As a complete unit all you need to fit it is the RH rear engine mount plate from the 550 as that holds the clutch cable,as parts only the headgasket upwards is compatible
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

youll have to ask frostyboy about that bryanj,its in his avatar but hes far from that let me tell you!

the sump plug can also be used between the two engines,and the dip stick!along with a multitude of transmission circlips and special slotted spacers,and those set rings that locate the main and countershaft bearings,alignment dowells and gudgeon pins,id be snapping that 550 engine up man,i prefer them over the 500 anyway because of the improved clutch and transmission.
