CB650 WONT START WHEN COLD
« on: December 19, 2013, 04:57:49 PM »
My 1981 CB650C will start instantly when the temp is above 70 degrees.  Below 60 and it wont start at all without a shot of starter fluid in the air flilter.  Any ideas?

Use the choke. :-D
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

With the key off, twist the throttle twice, pull choke cable full all the way out, turn key on, hit starter button, it should fire right up.

I've done that.  If I follow that exact routine about 20 times, sometimes it will start, but not very often.  It hits a couple of times then just turns over.

Then you need to clean your carbs, mainly the slow jet circuits.

What I did with my 81 was to replace the VB44A carbs with VB44B carbs (VB44C's will work as well) as they have screw in pilot jets.

Also, make sure the choke cable is actually working- it may have become unhooked at the lower end...Larry
