The M-lock is a great device. I'm going M-key for wireless ignition to further frustrate would-be ne'er do wells. You're right about having to haul it away though. Short of picking these things up, with electronic cut-out, they'll never get them started or hot wired.

As for the LoJack, provides enough time to load your weapon while drive to the bikes location to have a "chat" with those nearby. Nothing more surprising than showing up to recover your lost property.... I may spare the LoJack and just use the tried and true method of:

"Protected by Smith & Wesson". Seems to work really well at discouraging people from bad ideas.

That reminds me of the scene in Pulp Fiction, where Travolta and Stolz are discussing catching someone in the act of keying your car.  In some sick fantasy, I would love to "chat" with a theif the same way, but the reality is that I would let the police and prosecutors do their job.

I was checking out Devin's (CognitoMoto) new prototype oil tank.  Both his and Ian's (the one going on my bike) clean up the triangle under the seat.  The key difference is that Devin's mounts on the engine side of the triangle and Ian's tank mounts on the tire side of the triangle (and doubles as a fender).  Ian's looks very tidy and precise, while Ian's is slightly more organic, since it concaves on the tire side.  Both, in my opinion, are pretty awesome pieces and allow you to hollow out the triangle (assuming you relocate the electronics).

I like the fact that Ian's tank is a multitasker (combines the tank and fender into one) and, if you paint or powdercoat it, it practically disappears. behind the diagonal/vertical frame rail.  It will be a shame to PC it, since it is aluminum, but I may coat it to better protect it.

Inspired after my visit to Twinline Motorcycles this weekend and meeting Doctor D and Jeff Tower. Amazing quality builds and nice dudes. I can't wait to see my aluminum goods -seat and oil tank fender - this week.

Okay, I'm set to receive my oil tank/fender and seat tomorrow, but Ian sent me some preview photos mocked up on a roller he has with a SS tank. Anyway, this will give an idea of how the seat and oil tank/fender will go together.

Thanks Cal.

Now, if the damn postal service employee would actually deliver my box with the aluminum parts, I'd be much happier!!  I don't know why, but the carrier on my work route sometimes skips deliverying our building altogether, and when I check on the tracking it says "notice left" when we were never closed!   :o

Christmas came yesterday late in the day!  I got the seat and oil tank/fender in our mail delivery.  Not only do the parts look amazing, they are so LIGHT.

I'm taking them over to the shop on Saturday so the frame can be mocked up for mounting points (for the tank, seat, steering damper), detabbed, gusseted, etc., along with the cutting and installation of the Gordon frame kit.  Now, I feel like this project can start moving along!

Sadly, not yet.  The box was delivered to my office, so I checked out the goods and took them home.  Since it was raining and dark, I didn't take any pictures.

Wow, just wow. I thought I went overboard on my build.  Do yourself a favor and don't add it up at the end ;)

I slid my oil tank in the fwd part of the triangle, but it's being made a little bigger, and out of aluminum (I can't TIG weld).

fastfromthepast.com has a wonderful assortment of fork clamps for steering dampers, if you're going that route. A top triple mounted damper, with all the anodizing stripped off, then polished, would look the tits up there IMHO.

I look forward to the updates.

I haven't finalized where I want to mount a steering damper, but I'm leaning toward mounting it to the upper fork OR the lower triple tree (to the frame).  I have an Ohlins steering damper that I picked up nearly brand new from eBay.

I like your oil tank.  Both you and Tsunami have similar tanks.

I mounted it farther aft, so I could tack the battery on between the frame rails. This gives me the option to run two different seats; one a bump stop, and one a comfy touring seat. I'm adding an oil cooler and adding to the oil tanks overall dimensions. I figured my 836 should have more oil capacity, not less, than stock. Have you decided on a carb yet?

I'm going to run a Setrab oil cooler up front.  Between the tank, oil lines and the cooler, the oil should run significantly cooler.

I'm still undecided between the Keihin CR29s and the Mikuni RS34s.

Seth,

When I had Mike port my head, he mentioned that two forum members were running similar engine specifications with RS34s.  I have a feeling you were one of those, and Doctor D (David Hiller) was definitely one of them.

David prefers the RS34s to the CR29s; he says they provide more street-able power.  I've heard others remark that the CRs run best flat out and on the high rev range.

I got your PM regarding a Wideband gauge for tuning Air-Fuel.  Can you give me more details on the one you are using?  How did you install it?

Don

I think my engine is not quite as built as what you're planning, but it's plenty ;)

Concerning the Wideband:

It's the lowest priced model made by innovate.
I mounted the gauge (right) as such:

I have a 4-1 Carpy exhaust (which is crap fitment, btw...don't purchase) and I welded the O2 sensor bung in the collector, in the 21:00 position (looking from the rear), just behind the side stand (k model frame). It was really the only option for placement.

There's a box that houses some of the gauges electricals, that's maybe 4-5" long by 2" wide, which was the hardest part to hide. I hid it under my battery box, and it all but disappeared to the eye.

Some info for the RS34's.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=122398

I think MadScientist, Tweakin', and Dr. D all have motors from 836-915cc with MRieck's heads. They all are running RS34's, as am I.

Looks like a good build. I have met Ian at Twinline and he seems like a pretty good dude.

Not too much new to report.  I'm still waiting for my fabricator to make some time to modify the frame (gussets, frame kit installation, steering damper mount, steering lock tabs, tank mount, oil tank mount, seat mount, battery and electronics tray, etc.).

I did pick up a Joker oil pressure gauge (since they were on sale with Cycle X) to add to my engine accents.  Cylinders are bored and honed, and I also picked up a Cycle X gasket kit with a MLS head gasket.

Just caught up on this thread. Ugh, too nice. Beautiful build, love watching it come together. Lotta inspiration for my small bucks 550 build. Hurry up already! :-D
