Brake light popping help (solved)
« on: December 18, 2013, 08:47:32 PM »
Ok I rewired the starter and the ignition and charging from scratch. No problems there.

Here's the thing... So I started wiring the brake light. And the brake light keeps popping. Running light is ok.

So I switched the wires around, and now when I add keyed power the running light pops. Now brake is ok.

I haven't wired a fuse in yet. The bulb is a 2 filament type.

Are both wires supposed to get 12v? The frame is the ground. I'm running the power off of 12v switched.

Please and thank you for the help.

Try running a dedicated ground for testing purposes to see if that helps. Any of the "frame ground" crap I run a ring terminal to a ground spot either with a bullet end to the stock harness or the frame. Eliminates issues and weird stuff normally.

If it is aftermarket make sure you are giving power to the right colors, EMGO stuff I believe is yellow ground IIRC

Ok I'll try that in the am. I don't use bullets. All my connections are wire wrapped, soldered, then shrink wrapped. I'm pretty sure all connections are secure.

I will try a dedicated ground.

So switched 12v on oth wires is ok?

Alright, I made sure the ground was solid.

Well. Pop pop. 2 more dead bulbs.

I connected the last one directly to the battery, no sockets just good jumper wires.

And pop. The one filament is always good. It's the short thicker filament that keeps popping.

So maybe the 1154 bull is just a bad idea.

What bulb would you guys recommend?

Well the box says its 12v. Checked out the part number on line and.... Well it's a 6v bulb. Ah ha.

I am kind of pissed that the box says 12v.

take the box back with the blown globes and have them swapped?any bulb with a brand on it should be ok?its the crummy ones that come in aftermarket tail lights etc with no brand that are poorly made, the glass is rarely square with the metal cup etc.
