1157 LED Bulb — yes I searched
« on: December 20, 2013, 01:47:38 PM »
$30 seems like a lot for a bulb...but I am OK with it, if it is REALLY bright and makes me more visible

I have an LED taillight bulb right now (around 9 bucks from Autozone), but it is fairly dim. Especially the difference between REGULAR and BRAKE-ON

Does anybody actually have this bulb?

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/s-series-bulbs/1157-led-bulb--dual-intensity-36-high-power-leds/1689/

If so, are you happy with it?

Thanks

this one has twice the lumens...
http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/s-series-bulbs/1157-led-bulb--dual-intensity-28-high-power-led-/1644/3767/

be sure to buy red...
I don't see an option for red in that listing. Why would you need a red bulb if it is housed in a red lensed housing?

That one is only in "Cool White".

Shouldn't that be OK since the taillight plastic is RED and regular bulbs are white?

Nah, with LEDS the bulb color should match the cover color.

"For best results the LED color should be the same as the lens color or if bulb is behind a clear lens, use the appropriate color for turn and brake light functions. As an example: a red lens will filter out all but the red portion of the light so if the light is all red, none or very little light will be blocked by the lens. The light from a White LED contains very little light in the red portion of the visible spectrum so most of the light would be filtered out by a red lens"

His plate is not mounted under his tail light.
It's a little more important to be seen by he cagers behind you.
Stick with red for the tail/brake light.
Add led license plate bolts if you want plate illumination.

+1  This total makes sense!
Take the advise from Superbrightleds and get a red one.

Check BrandEn's build for the build I just received.

Put this one in the bike over the weekend. Very Happy. I feel like an idiot for driving around with my old cheap Autozone LED bulb

Old LED bulb (running) (it was like $10 for a 2 pack.)

NEW SUPERBRIGHTLED (running)

NEW SUPERBRIGHTLED (brake)

Huge improvement...it is SO BRIGHT  :)

Good job. I've got a pair of those autozone bulbs too. Not worth the trouble.
