We (the Smith Boys) are planning a trip to Phillip Island in January, for the Island Classic.
Plan to leave home (S.E Queensland) on the 18th, working our way down the East coast.
Let us know about all the good riding roads along that route, places and things of interest? Plz and thanks guys.

The Bikes:
Dad = VT1100
Isaac = CB750 K7
Myself = CB400F

There are a number of vintage racers from the US heading there for the Classic - http://www.race-uscra.com/docs/letters/2013/TEAM_USA.pdf. No SOHCs but some really cool bikes and some great riders. I'm totally bummed I'm not going too.

Gday Adam

Mate I'll be at the Island leaving Sydney Fri 17th.
Depending how far south you want to go before finding the good roads will depend which will be a 'good' way to go.

If you want to find good roads from Port Maquarie onwards I can recommend some or wait until South of Sydney to find good roads.

Thing is the closer you get to the Island the bigger the chance of coming across police keeping an eye on things so watch your speed and watch dudes coming the other way giving you the heads up as to where the police are.

Take your time and have a safe trip. Plenty of roads that you don't need to speed on to have fun. I won't be on the K2 because my daughter is coming so we will be on the red/white Boldor with sidecar.

Might see you down there

Hi Scott, thanks for the info. our plan now is to head straight down the middle through Dubbo, making a few stops along the way, do the great ocean rd before heading to PI. We'll head up the east coast on our way home, doing the putty rd, the oxley.??
It'll be good to meet more forum members.

Cheers,
Adam

I have to Thank My two Son's for making this Road Trip to Phillip Island possible, from a Father's perspective, this was a Trip of a Lifetime & I enjoyed every minute of it & Enjoyed your company heaps, we travelled over 5000 km & that's a great effort for all of us, It will be great if we can do this again some day. We only had a couple of problems that wasn't to much of a drama, which was great. My Son's & I want to Thank a couple of SOHC Forum members for their Hospitality, sohc Boy  & Bear, Thanks Heaps Fella's & it was great to catch up again. We also met a couple more Forum members, Scott from Sydney & Pete from South Australia, was great to meet you Fella's. Anyway we enjoyed the Island Classic it was a great weekend of action packed racing, & for Us to watch( Bear ) after what you have been through Mate, race around the Island on his sohc 750/four powered Sidecar was Inspiring, great stuff Bear. My Son's & I also got to meet some Racing Legends like John McGinness, The Isle of Man Legend & Aussie's Cameron Donald, another Isle of Man Legend. Also met Aussie Legend Robbie Phillis. Just to name a few. Anyway our Trip home was bloody awesome, got to see Family & Friends, & riding some of Aussie's great riding roads, I'll mention just a few, we rode the Great Ocean Road before we got to the Island Classic. On the way home we rode the Princes Hwy to Cann River then up the Monaro Hwy up to Canberra to visit Family, from there rode through Young to Woodstock to see Family, then headed for Bathurst & rode around Mt Panorama then rode the Bells Line Of Road, then on the Putty Road, ending up in Seeham to visit Friend's. Staying there a couple of nights, then shooting up to Wauchope then riding up the Oxley Hwy to Walcha, then headed north up the New England Hwy until we got home, it was bloody great Mate. Can't wait to do it again, Thanks again Boy's & Cheers All.  ;D

Gday Adam

Yeah mate I made a few adjustments to the thing before I left Phillip Island, but still don't love it. I'll hang onto it for a few years to see if I use it enough to keep it or not.

The poofter chain broke Sydney side of Cooma and I didn't have a spare link with me to fix it.  Left the bike on the side of the road and hitched a ride back to Cooma, rented a car to get me home and went back that night and picked it up with a horse float that a mate lent me.

A couple of hours mucking around but not too bad.

You had a great trip by the sounds of it.  I'm pretty sure I will be there next year.

Scott
