New here, project cb550, zx7 forks
« on: December 23, 2013, 05:57:26 PM »

Hey all, My name is Jesse, I'm a long time lurker, but I've started taking my engine apart and I will probably need some help in the future!

Here is my project: 77 CB550 with a front end from a 90's zx7. Engine is pretty untouched with 36k miles.
I built some 17" wheels front and rear. Front hub is a rd350 hub with axle spacers and a disk spacer. Rear rim is from a Goldwing. Avon roadrider tires, 100/80-17 front and 120/80-17 rear. Exhaust is a 4-2 with "spaghetti pipes" that merge cylinders 1-4 and 2-3. Mufflers are aluminum glass packs I made myself.
I want to keep the stock seat and tank but I'm going to chop down most everything else.
I put about 1000 miles on the bike testing it out, so far everything is excellent. More pics to come, but here is one of it in construction, and another of it finally on the road this fall.

Oh yeah, the front rotor is from a 94 YZR and it is spaced approx 20mm from the hub.
Took a few evenings of comparing bearing sizes, etc to figure out the front end. It's been a  total  budget build thus far.  I'm hoping to finish it this winter and document it here.
