My Winter Project (Nearly Finished)
« on: October 23, 2013, 05:36:40 AM »
I picked up this `75 CB750 last week, the po had started taking it apart to restore and lost interest. I decided before I got too deep into it I better see if it ran(he said it did). I put a battery and some gas in it and it fired right up. It has 17000 miles is pretty well complete and in good shape not much rust anywhere, I`m going to take it apart clean it up good and make a nice rider out of it.

Looks like it's in great shape already. Reminds me a lot of my own bike.

That is a beautiful machine, how much cleaner can you get it?
I'd be looking to fix the front tire first

It is a clean bike, there is some rust on nuts and bolts and things like that I want to clean up. I think before I really do much to it I am going to get a tire for the front and ride it a bit. I need to get a new air filter for it, the PO had put pods on it but I have the original airbox so I`m going to put it on.

The color of the bike suggests a 76 750k6 model.

Nice

Any suggestions on how to clean the spokes on the rear wheel without taking wheel apart. They aren`t rusty just dingy looking. I have tried never dull, maybe steel wool?

0000 steel wool is a good option use a dab of semichrome polish on it.

Don't use anything too aggressive like a steel wire brush as that will remove the protective zinc coating on the spokes and make them rust faster.

The cleanup process has begun, I beadblasted and painted the battery box and have got all the rattlecan paint the PO had sprayed the frame with off. I have cleaned up the wheels with steel wool(thanks Bankerdanny) and they turned out great. I`m going to be started back together with it next week.

WOW...very nice!!! You will get plenty of envious looks on that bike. Finally a bike without the K/Q seat on it :)

I`m nearly finished with the K5, about all I need do do is get a chain and put the rear turn signals on. It has the wrong front fender but I`ll find one eventually.  It`s been a fun project and a good way to burn the winter evenings.

That is looking excellent. You going with the standard chain or the O or X ring chain?
