How screwed am I? - Clutch screw sheared.
« on: September 03, 2006, 07:16:21 PM »
The adjusting screw inside my clutch cover sucked in and sheared off.... I have a '77 CB750F

I was trying to get it adjusted and following the directions in Clymers was not working.  So I decided to turn the screw in all the way and see if that gave me some clutch action.  I had everything as tight as it would go and I was ready to test if the wheel would stay still in first.  My father-in-law deciede to "help me" and forced the clutch lever in with two hands as I was reaching for the petal to drop it into first from nuetral.  BANG POW CLANK.  The clutch adjusting screw inside the clutch cover screw blew off the locking nut and sucked it self in. Attempting to loosen it with a impact wrench succeeded in breaking off the screw.
The shaft is good and stuck inside the bearing  Should it come apart easily?  How screwed am I?

I am thinking I am going to have to take it to the dealer......  :(

You will have to take off the clutch cover and inspect what broke whilst comparing it to the parts book. From what you say the bike was jumping gear which is nothing to do with the clutch anyway
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
