Thanks for verifying that Brent.

The cam was clearanced to the head a while back since it didn't need to cover. Had to taper the backside of the valve "pockets" slightly to get the cam to spin.

Cal, what's the lift and duration of that megacycle cam? Really great work so far, enjoying reading through this one.

It's the MegaCycle 126-20
.363" 259*
.33" 259*

That's very similar to the Webcam 358a I'll be running.

only it's a tad less lift on one side a bit more duration.

.330" 280*
.330" 280*

When I mocked up the piston to deck height I was sitting just slightly below the deck surface at around 5 thou. I don't think I'll be decking the cylinder more though. I did notice the valve relief's are quite a bit larger than the ones on your Wiseco's. I wonder if I'll run into similar piston to valve clearance issues. I'll be clay checking regardless though.

Don't forget the Web numbers are at 0.050" checking height, Megacycle is 0.040" so there is no comparing the cams "on paper". Plus those Web figures given are not supposed to be at the valve. I used the 58a in my one of ours and the advertised duration @0.050" is 255 degrees I think.

Here's what I found with the 58a @ 0.040 just for loose comparison. Lift is 0.315" for both intake & exhaust, duration 241 degrees, LC's of 106 degrees.

Trad, it's not intended as a race cam but is a good choice for the street. The powerband is very linear and compares nicely to what Honda aimed for with a bit more kick.

Thanks Brent. After much deliberation I've decided to just run one of my 650 cams with the JE piston's and ported head. I'd rather not spend hours degreeing this thing. Bolt in on stock marks and go. haha. The dollar is really high so this is a good time to sell for me here in Canada. Don has already put his name on the Webcam. I'd like to run a bigger cam at some point but a quick buck would be nice right about now.

Sorry for the Hijack Cal  ;D

Don't mind me, I was toiling away at the lathe making some unobtanium motor hangar bolts...

m12x1.25x12.5" for the 500

And made a neighbor his K3 lower M12x1.5x14" while I was in there. That goes into the mail tomorrow to him.

So the boy has come thru finally with some templates for his seat hoop. He was clever and made the template from foam board for the planar layout, then sent me a scale drawing in paper for exact measurements and a profile (Hmm, college really pays off. Who knew?)

And a picture comparing his hoop to the 550

And of course, the 6061 tubing I'll be using for his hoop (1"x0.125" wall)

Awesome.  The kid has skills!

Nice wiring job Cal.

Question 1: What are the cons of using the M-Button to consolidate the wiring versus your set-up?

Question 2: What model Shorai are you using?  LFX14A5-BS12?

Question 3: Is there any detriment -- aside from size -- in using a model with more cold cranking amps?  Shorai has one that has 285 vs. 210.

Question 1: What are the cons of using the M-Button to consolidate the wiring versus your set-up?  The m-button requires the use of suppressor wires for the ignition. Other than that, I can think of no detriment.

Question 2: What model Shorai are you using?  LFX14A5-BS12?  It is the 14a5, A2 frame. Has 210 CCA and 14AH.

Question 3: Is there any detriment -- aside from size -- in using a model with more cold cranking amps?  Shorai has one that has 285 vs. 210. There's an 18A in the same size that I might swap to for my BMW. Aside from size, I can think of no other issue, but, do you really need 285?

So after too many weeks, the motor has come home to roost! Couldn't resist some vanity shots  ;)

To refresh your memory, this is what I started with:

Then, after a major spa day with Mike Rieck, some trick new internals, and some matching by my buddy, Stuart from Ballos Machine, we get to here:

I even do the bolts you can't/won't see:

New APE studs and ARP nuts:

I've still got to install the rotor, ignition, and clutch, button up those cases and covers, and some other odds and ends to complete the engine.

A few last pictures of the fuel delivery side:

I'll be alone in my bunk now for a few hours  ::)
