Well I spent about 1.5 hours this evening sorting out every nut and bolt and packaging then up in separated baggies so I can reassemble the engine. While doing this, I couldn't resist a few test fits of the new ARP studs and nuts in different locations.

A shot of my Mike Rieck intakes, ported and polished, and hanging on new studs and nuts forum ARP

Me too. Should have it wrapped up next week. Trying to bust a re-wire with Dusterdude on his K1 this weekend, so gotta make some time to bolt it all together in between.

Looking good Cal, I might have to get you to help me with getting stud sets, they look great... ;)
Ordered them (and all my ARP actually) through www.allensfasteners.com. The entire order (+150 pieces) came in a small Flat USPS box for $6 shipping and landed to me in 4 days from order. Gotta love that. His website is bit clunky because you have to select each piece, then add the quantity, then put in the cart, then go back to the previous page to select the next one and so on. I asked if I could email him a spreadsheet with a bulk order and he declined because his app generates a pick-sheet. Oh well, what else you going to do with 3 hours in the evening?

Seems silly to get worked up over nuts and bolts, I know, but I gotta tell you, they're just unbelievably nice to spin nuts on them. Smooth like a newborn's backside and absolutely no slop in the threads. They've got a really beautiful lustre to them from being tumbled, not polished. Proper respect for the handiwork of Mike's that lurks beneath the covers  ;) I even have them for the cam and chain sprockets because I am that obsessive about their quality.

You'll see when it comes time to attach the cam sprocket. There isn't room for a large head so it has to be designed for a wrench to fit well. Plus the most important feature of a good bolt for this job is the shoulder fit in the sprocket hole, important especially if it's slotted. Uncle Mike (who else  ;D) recommended Yamaha bolts #90105-07004 and I concur they're the best part for the job I've found.

Sorry to pick out one part of your post, but it raised a flag right off. The bolts look good though.  ;)

The ARPs arent that large of a head, barely wider than the stock hex heads. Or are you referring to the height of the head? You are correct, I haven't evaluated the interference potential there yet.

Started buttoning up the lower end. I'm dry fitting the piston/cylinder to measure for the piston depth so I can get the correct head gasket. Using the Wisecos, seems the pistons are 0.032" in the hole, so decking the block will be required.

HD studs are installed, and now I've just got to grab my gasket from Marieck, install the cam chain and tensioner, and bolt down the head... Maybe next week, probably the next; I've got to fly to the west coast and help my brother move cross country...  :'( gonna do the 2600 miles in under 3 days if possible. Wish me luck-

Calj737,
Is there any chance that you could post your spread sheet for the bolts and nuts you ordered?
And being pushy, (LOL) if you have the Allen Fasteners part numbers on the spreadsheet that would be extra nice.

Thanks,

Charlie

Oldhatt I vaguely remember there's a spreadsheet in the forum already, I think where all the manuals are located, wherever that is, as I can't find it anywhere.

Oldhatt - Sorry, spreadsheet is gone, but I do have a recent copy of the Order I placed. It will give you some idea to quantity, length and pitch on the assortment I ordered. The M10x1.5 are not stock, but I am using them for engine mounting since they're coupled with a new nut of same pitch. Just and FYI...

Calj737

That's a heck of a list!!!!!
THANK YOU!  Wanted to get an idea as to the differences and similarities between the 550 & 750 and what I may need to order when I get to the engine on my K6.

MickB,
Thanks, I have a copy of the Nuts & Bolts sheet.  But I was interested in what fasteners the 550 uses as I said above.
But, Thanks for reminding me.

Hadn't thought about that, Brent.... ::) I would be a major threat in that race insofar as I can personally drive tank to tank without stopping (530 miles in my sedan). Passengers commence clawing at the windows and calling for the Staties shortly after quarter tanks elapse.

A warning to anyone with incontinence: Don't road trip with me!

Road trip story time-

About a decade ago, took some pals to Mexico for a bird hunting trip. They were from Atlanta, me and my local pal flew from Richmond to meet them in Dallas. As boys do, we ended up in a bar awaiting a flight and missed the connection... So, with a limited trip schedule and international permits, only good option was to drive (535 miles). Being a good host, I grabbed a rental car which due to our baggage and 4 adults needed to be a minivan.

As we pulled from the airport without baggage stuffed in, guest #1 and #2 from Atlanta spied a beverage store. Told them to stock up as I wasn't stopping but for petrol... They return with 2 cases of Heineken and a styro cooler filled with ice. So for the next 7 hours (doesn't seem to be a spped limit going south through Texas thankfully) I am flying very low with the speedo buried, 2 feet pressed onto the pedal, and these galoots in the back drinking up a storm. Problem is, drinking that much generally produces the need to expel some liquid. Remember, I don't stop...

So there we are, 4 grown men reliving our University days as best we can, misbehaving in public, traveling with bags for hunting (firearms safely locked away) and me stone cold sober but pushing. Despite their unrelenting cries for mercy, I would not stop. So, being a minivan, they decided they didn't need to travel with a door closed, and realized that it made for quite a convenient evacuation panel.

I don't care how badly you have to Pee. You don't have enough flow to prevent it from flying back inside a car moving over 100 MPH and spraying your mate seated beside you... (No worries, the van was a rental). So after the hammerheads deciphered how to NOT drown in each other's urine, they quite happily drank away, refilling the beer at the gas station.

By the time we arrived in Brownsville, the van was running on 4 tires ballooned in pressure, smoke emanating from every hose, wheel hub, and the exhaust was cherry red. Not to mention the odor from the back of the cargo area...

Moral of the story: make your connection THEN get drunk, lest you road trip with me...
