Topic: Soda Blasting

I had access to a sand blasting room but no more.

I would like to get a portable soda blaster, what do you use?  The two small ones at Harbor Freight got bad reviews, what about this one?

And where do you use yours and how is clean up?

I cannot use my garage for this but could use it in the driveway if cleanup just involves a hose down. I could also do it at work, if necessary.

soda will kill your grass though,it alters the ph in the dirt and the grass goes brown dies and dissapears, then takes ages to regrow so be sure to do it next door,that clutch cargo one looks good,better than my cheap arse rig.

i turn the feed upside down and use a funnel to blast with fine washed sand,wouldnt try a whole frame but perhaps around welds?works ok on heads and small parts.

I was embarrassed to share this, but here is my poor man's blaster. I had

a lousy little 2 gallon compressor,
a kitchen portable cabinet with a broken wheel,
an old dinosaur of a TV from the PHO that is too heavy for me to pick and throw out,
some card board,
a bottle of protein powder,
two 4" drain pipe couplings,
two yogurt containers,
a pair of rubber gloves,
an old broken window from the inlaws' old place,
some duck tape and clear tape,
a cheapo blasting nozzle.

Works well at high PSI, but only in short seconds bursts. Will need to work a lot and invest in a real compressor.

How clean does that part need to be? Are you re-shoeing the asbestos pads?

Thanks for the info guys.  I'd be blasting in my driveway, so no grass to burn up. And I don't want a cabinet, don't want to store it.  Will just be doing small parts mostly, but no brake shoes!

Oh no, this just happened to be the dirtiest part I could find laying around after I tore down the bike. Will get new ones, I don't think these will work eventhough the pad is almost full. Smooth as marble though.

you hermetically clean your rear shoes and they look like #$%* five brake applications later,no offense or anything,i like assembling clean brakes.

my cheapo rig does exhausts ports nicely,and using cheap washed white plaster sand for 5 bucks a 25 litre bring your own pail from the garden supply centre makes it even better,i also use that sand with a normal bar of soap to wash my hands with,makes like a gritty grindy soap,i cant use any auto workshop type hand cleaners as they are too harsh on my hands,im also a hand model,my hands get used for stand in shots etc like advertising and stunt action work so i have to take care of the skin on my hands.
