The speedo is noisy, it screams.  I rode up to get gas and on the way back I had speedo disconnected, no noise. The cable is new and lubed, I suppose there is a dry bushing inside the housing.
I have a new aftermarket speedo I got with the bike but I really like the orig speedo, you can see the face is a different color.
Any ideas, I took apart my 500 to replace the face plate, Is there a bushing that can be lubed?

Also the rear shocks are as stiff as a hard tail, I have orig shocks. Ill either install orig or light springs.
thanks, Mark

Speedo has no more noise, lubed the cable. I thought I installed a new cable, I didn't. My memory is a little lacking, good thing I have a wrist bracelet with my address.  ;)
Put the stock shocks on, rides much better.

My brakes on my CB500 have better stopping power than my CB750. They are both stock, all the air have been bleed. any suggestion other than dual disc, different pads or rotors?

That has to do more with the 90 or so extra lbs. you are trying to stop on the 750.  Other than those suggestions, go with stainless steel lines, cross-drilled rotors and maybe a larger master cylinder.

Thanks,
Ive been reading about what your saying and they are are good suggestions. But I have ridden double up on my 500 and It seems like the stopping is about the same as me riding single on the 750.
I do like the idea of a larger master cylinder.
Do you think different pads i.e. EBC is better? Who makes a good rotor?
thanks, Mark

I have tried several incarnations of 750 brakes:
Stock
Dual Disc
Dual Disc GL1000 cross-drilled (swapped front end to 76 GL1000)
EBC Dual Disc GL1000 with EBC pads

The GL1000 front end swap was the best mod I made yo brakes and suspension, especially after rebuilding the shocks with Race Tech internals (gold valve emulators and new springs).

The EBC discs are very well made.  They are floating rotors so they are MUCH lighter than any stock rotors (even if you drill the bejeezus out of them).  The stock rotors do not float and are bolted straight onto the mounts; this is why the stock rotors are so darn thick to prevent warping.  I don't think that the EBC rotors stop markedly better than my cross-drilled stock rotors, but they are MUCH lighter.  If you do not do the GL swap, you will have a problem because the only EBC 750 rotors available do not fit your model.

I think you can improve your stock brakes by cross-drilling and resurfacing (deglazing) them.  Anubis Cycle (El Cheapo) or Goddfrey can do this for you -- with Goddfrey you also get the bonus of having them thinned (and lightened even more).  Drilling alone with probably shed about 1/3 the weight, and you will definitely get better bite with the drilled brakes.

Bang for the buck -- I would recommend getting them cross-drilled.  You can do it yourself if you have a heavy duty drill press, a few drill bits, a pattern you can download from the forum (do a search), and lots of patience.  Anubis can do it cheaply for $45 and the wholes are chamfered (beveled) and you get a resurfaced disc (removes any worn in grooves).

It's a small world sometimes.

Good luck with your brakes.  I have similar issues bugging me with my stock 550 brakes (after upgrading the lines and the master cylinder).  I've decided to go to dual cross-drilled discs.

An oil quickly developed, just took a look,  it wasn't the hole in the case leaking that I just repaired  8) (nice and dry).
Its the shifter side cover gasket, YIPPEE....... its a new gasket too,  ???
Better make sure the surface is flat.

The leak seems to be coming from the oil galley plug, I found an old thread discussing this plug.
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=99721.0
One person suggested an o-ring, another machined and interference plug,  I don't want to put any sealer under the plug so not to get in the oil galley.
The plug is soft but I suspect this is the cause of the leak not the gasket.

I got the tank paint finished, I decided to not make it like my old bike.
I wanted the similar colors and a 70's flair but I also want to keep a stockish look.
I liked the look of the early silver K bikes. Tomorrow I'll be fixing the oil leak then back on the road.
I can here ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY in the back ground, season just opened, plus next month FAST FRIDAYS Speedway races start up in Auburn.

Thanks, I got the graphics from eBay, the blue pinstripe was from local auto parts store. They recommended clear coating over the decals. I didn't in case i decided to change later, they were cheap.

I'd go with two coats of clear over the decals and stripes.

Well I'm finished, runs great, I've been riding back and forth to work for a few weeks and no oil leaks have developed despite the hole in the case from the thrown chain.

Before-

Case crack

After fix

Mark,

Your bike turned out great.  Congrats!!

Don
Thanks Don, when I discovered the hole in the case my heart sank. I started investigating and found others have repaired plus the fact the previous owners have been riding for years in this condition, the last owner didn't even know(so said).
My wife has always said I can fix anything, so what the heck, Ill re-fix it a little better. Only time will tell.
I did drop the oil pump screen cover and found no metal chunks, in fact it was fairly clean.
If I come across a good set on cases I'll consider replacing, but for now spring is here and the roads are dry.
thanks, Mark

I just scored a Russell Day Long Seat for $20. I know for the purist this is not stock and ugly, but for the rider these seat are the creme dela creme. Its old but the seats in good condition.
The company is near where I live in No Calif. and has been around long time. Several of my bikes in the past had them on, 1k mile day is not a problem.
thanks, Mark
