Ascot Park.  That was in or near Gardena -- not too far from me.  Now, the nearest track will be the Porsche Experience that is being built in Gardena off the 405 FWY.
[/quote]

I lived in Bellflower at the time and Gardena was not far, in fact I remember seeing a Honda Corporate sign on a building that was visible form the grandstands. My Dad and Mom, the conservative money spenders they were, had the opportunity to get a Honda franchise when they were first starting, well he didn't. I think he said the price was in the neighborhood of a few thousand dollars.

My whole life would have changed, I wouldn't have had the get that stupid job at Yamaha International in Buena Park just out of high school '71, hanging around the race dept, seeing Kenny Roberts short track bike, seeing Malcom Smith and Jimmy Weinart wondering the halls.   ;D
thanks, Mark

Damn!  You got to see King Kenny and Malcom Smith.  PRICELESS!!

Malcom raced at the Balboa Vintage GP a few years ago.  That guy is slow on foot, but still fast on two wheels -- faster than most of us will ever be.

Did Yamaha used to be in Buena Park and then move to Cypress?  Or is it all the same?

I didn't have that kind of work history, but I did have a cool neighbor across the street who raced for Kawasaki and gave us rides -- Jeff Ward.

Yamaha is still on Orangethorpe in Buena Park, I seem to always go by it when visiting.
One of my jobs was setting up new bikes out of crates for magazine test. It was a real good experience for young green kid.

Thanks for keeping the bike stock! Very rare these days!

One tip: when importing pics from Photobucket, use the "direct" rather than the "image" link to post a pic. Just copy the "direct" link, paste it in your post, then highlight and click the "image" button above the text field (Mona Lisa next to the "Flash" icon). That way your pics show up full size in the post and folks aren't redirected to Photobucket each time they click on a pic. Just a suggestion.  ;D

Keep up the good work!

Thanks on the image suggestion.
The bike will basically stock except for the mufflers, turn signals and seat, air box, as I don't have all the stock pieces, but it will be and easy changeover in the future.

i have an airbox i can send your way free of charge. People on this forum have helped me plenty so its just my way of paying it forward if youre interested. I will unbox it and send you some pics, mine is off a 72.

Thanks JOJO for offering airbox, for now I'm using the aftermarket, I miss quoted I do have one. The bike will be closer to stock when I'm finished, but I can assure you JOJO in the not so distant future it will be in stock attire. I will need set of mufflers though, ouch

I did some more investigating and found a online diagram that has it, looks like it for the starter not engaging when bike is in gear and the clutch not pulled in. The diagram in my manual didn't seem to have it, or it was was wrong year or my old age and eye site. More that likely the latter.

I've been talking to the guys over at Stewarts Customs and Collision about some fiberglass and possible paint work. Seem to be good folks from what I can tell. They may be on the expensive side of things though. They are over on Roseville Rd.

Find a local Paintless Dent Wizard and they can remove that dent for you. They'll use rods to push it up from inside. Then some fine tuning with a hammer and knockdown tool, you'll be good to go.

No its not my shop, It cost me $600,. He painted the tank, side covers and the headlight shell, I had some small dents and the pin striping was done by hand not a decal like stock. I don't know if it was high or normal, but the paint came out really nice. I used VMR Paints, they have vintage Honda colors-

Yes he did, I was going to paint the tank but I have a mechanics background not body and paint repair. I have a lot of respect for those guys, Its hard work and patients to make paint look good. I could do ok with one color and no pin striping.

Hello I have a question about the caliper and mount. K6
Im try to figure out what I have and what Im suppose to have.

Here is what was on bike-
Wider bracket, but doesn't line up with caliper, too short.

I have a narrower one that lines up with caliper but bolts are too longs.

Here is a pic of my CB500 caliper

I ran into this for my 750K8.  my K8 calipers had the thicker arm and came with a flat faced piston housing.  the increased width of the arm made up for the rotor width.
I later added two K1 calipers to my K8 for a dual-rotor setup.  they had thinner caliper arms, but the space needed for rotor width was made up by the piston housing having a step out, just below the bolts.
in your first picture you have the THICK arm matched with the piston housing made for a thin caliper arm...

parts mixed with a caliper from another year.  scary if you bought it like that  :o
use the thinner arm, as you have positoned in your 3rd photo and use...
caliper bolt...M10  45mm  1.25 pitch

thanks Flybox1 for reply,
I was going to put the skinnier mount like you said, just wanted some expert opinions. And yes there were a lot of questionable things all over the bike, I was going to ride it for awhile after I bought it, but glad I didn't. Ive owned enough used motorcycles to know never to trust everything they said was done to the bike.
thanks again for the info,  :)

Im installing the Mac headers and there are no slots on the muffler for the clamp to tighten down. There were clamps when removed pipe but all it did was smash the pipe, it didn't tighten the muffler to the header. They fit snug, opinions about cutting slots, a tight fit will stop any movement.
Do Mac mufflers not come with slots?

thanks for reply, I'm going to cut some slots with a hack saw, two will probably do as they are a tight fit. A dirt bike I used to have had an aftermarket exhaust and it didn't use a clamp, just high temp silicon. I dont want to use silicon, its was b*&%h to separate.

Got my aftermarket rear tail light installed, I managed to use the stock mounting screws and holes, didn't have to ruin the integrity of the stock fender.  I like to keep everything as orig as possible.

thanks, Mark

Got the wiring squared way, cranked it over and got oil pressure.
So started it up, ran pretty good.  :)
Next, paint and body work on gas tank and side covers.
