Topic: 1976 CB750 Project to look like my '70's CB

Weather temp (mid-60's) cooperated so I got busy and painted the frame.
I've used Preval paint sprayer several times now with good success.






Even got the early Honda orange peel.

The covers were already polished, I just cleaned them up and clear-coated. Saved me a lot of work! I found a bench buffer at a garage sale, beats cleaning by hand.

I must say the '76 carbs were little easier for me to rebuild then my CB500. Looks like it will be easier to sync.

One tip: when importing pics from Photobucket, use the "direct" rather than the "image" link to post a pic. Just copy the "direct" link, paste it in your post, then highlight and click the "image" button above the text field (Mona Lisa next to the "Flash" icon). That way your pics show up full size in the post and folks aren't redirected to Photobucket each time they click on a pic. Just a suggestion.

The bike will basically stock except for the mufflers, turn signals and seat, air box, as I don't have all the stock pieces, but it will be and easy changeover in the future.

Neighbor came over and helped me get the engine in the frame, treated ourselves to Red Seal Ale for a tough job well done,

So I'm putting on the forks and noticed the 1976 doesn't use the "D" spacer on the top triple clamp, also uses 7mm bolt instead of 8mm. Is anyone still installing the D spacer?

I just pulled off the front end of my K4 and it had the D washers, def need them
'76 may have been the first year that did not use them?

I just looked up the parts fiche and yes '76 is the first year. I thought why they are there is to avoid over tightening and breaking the clamp.

Yes, previous owner installed progressive springs, but not seals, so i disassembled,  cleaned and new seals.

Thanks  for reminding me about rebuilding the forks, I rebuilt and work hadn't tighten the allen damper bolt.........yikes

Ascot Park.  That was in or near Gardena -- not too far from me.  Now, the nearest track will be the Porsche Experience that is being built in Gardena off the 405 FWY.
