1976 750K Part Time Project
« on: December 30, 2013, 07:16:21 PM »
I'm starting a build thread for my bike that I bought about two months ago. I don't have huge build plans for it as I'm short on cash and time to work on it but I would still like something a little bit different than stock.

Here are some pics from when I first rode her home

I was told by the PO that the forks seals had just been replaced but after riding for a couple hundred miles I pried up the fork gaiters and surprise surprise the left one was leaking. So first on my list was to change the forks seals. I slid the forks out last weekend and the area under fork ears was badly pitted and rusted so instead of replacing the seals I bought a set of 78 forks off another member and put my new seals in those forks. The following link and this forum were a big help. http://www.salocal.com/sohc/tech/frkng/frkng.htm

This weekend I got around to installing my new forks, headlight ears, turn signals and made some brackets for the signals.

Still on my to do list so far:
  • Wire signals
  • Paint bracket
  • Install new 18T and 48T sprockets
  • Install new 530 x-ring chain
  • Clean carbs

As I was trying to figure out the wiring for the turn signals this morning I came across some mystery wires and am hoping you guys can help me identify them. One wire is black and the other is brown with a blue stripe, they are just clipped off and sitting in my headlight bucket. I also included a pic of the PO's delightful wiring job.

The front indicators on the K5 band K6 have running lights in them.  The wires are black with red stripe RHS and black with blue stripe LHS.  They plug into the bucket to brown with blue tracer for RHS and brown with red tracer for the LHS.  Hope this helps  :)  The indicators have a double filiment bulb ie 21 / 6 watt 12 volt bulb.  6 watt for running lights and 21 for indicators.

What changes are you going to do ?

I could be wrong but I thought the running lights were the blue wire with the white stripe and orange wire with the white stripe.

I don't have a lot planned for the bike just maybe installing smaller gauges, trimming some seat foam, trimming the rear fender and adding an aftermarket brake light.
