how small do photo files have to be to upload here?? e.g. 2048x1563 or maybe 800x480?

Don't know the exact answer but they must be SMALL. Most of us use an online service such as Photobucket. Upload , copy the img code then paste to your topic/reply etc 
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

If you want to post your full size photos and don't like them to be compressed, open a Dropbox account and put your photos in Public folder which allows you to share them.
If you don't mind compression and resizing, use other services already mentioned.

Thanks for your help, I worked out how to resize them to 50% in microsoft picture manager but I was hoping to set the resolution small enough on my phone camera to avoid having to do this for future photos - so here as a test is one taken set at 800x480:-

I get the over size files off my cell phone and lately go to  'open with' and use paint. Then I resize them to 25%. Some can load completely straight from the phone.
