Replacing valve seats CB750
« on: December 31, 2013, 04:48:34 PM »
Anyone know who does this, not cutting the seats but replacing the entire insert or would I be better just getting another head from someone?

Thanks.

G'Day Adam, Are your seats that bad that you can't re-cut them? I guess not if you're saying that they need replacement. Repco used to do it, if not, they could probably point you in the direction of an engineer who could?

Other than that, just do a search for "Engine Reconditioners" in your area and I'm sure you'll find someone who can do it for you. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The throat has been widened slightly so when the seats are cut, the valve rests on the tip against the seat. The top cut should cure this and move where the valve sits on the 45 degree, further down the valve face so it sits where it should. The top cut isn't working and I've taken out more than normally and haven't fixed the issue.

The alternative is over sized valves such as 0.5mm that cyclex sell and hope with the slight bigger valve it will solve the problem.

Do repco actually sell valve seats that will fit into the head or can they put them in and I have to source them? Shame to waste a good head.

Yep, there's nothing like good head Adam, for sure. Repco used to supply the seats, but I'm talking 30 years ago now since they did my K1 head, so who knows? Pick up the phone and ask 'em mate. ;D

Thanks Terry, do you have the number  :P or would you give me the number from 30 years ago?

Sent a few emails off to local head mechs so hopefully that will prove fruitful.

Don't suppose you know the size I'm after for inlet & exhaust?
