650 CAM QUESTION
« on: December 31, 2013, 08:27:02 AM »
so ive been doing some research on the 650 cams. i recall a few people saying that the first year cb650 cam had a different lobe height and duration that the other years, therefore, making it more desireble. however, working at a honda shop has its advantages. upon researching part numbers, the camshaft (part # 14101-426-000) is used on the 79-82 cb650, 80-81 cb650c custom, as well as the 82 cb650 sc nighthawk.

so my question is- has anybody physically measured the lobes to see if there is a difference or did one person say it and now everyone believes it?

I think this is the bit of info your looking for,  would be cool of you to add your part number info to that tread as it adds more cam options. ;)

OK guys thanks for the answers, even if it isn't what I wanted to hear :'(

What's the score with the camshafts though, do the numbers just signify diferent batches or are they three different grinds?

if you're stateside, i'd say it's just different batches. in europe there were different profiles, but not here. the stamping the 550 and 650 cams i was playing around with were the same, telling me the number was probably for the blank before it was grinded.

All the 650 cams are the same except a lopo version from germany.    The 79 650 was a little quicker but it was mostly due to gearing.
