Wet Nuts Got me chaffed!
« on: June 23, 2023, 12:37:45 AM »
Clickbait title I know! So rebuilt the top end engine, smoking a lot on the first couple rides including from the oil in the tank after about 30 mins of city driving… did some research on here last night and although the videos were down there was a lot of talk of too high an idle causing overheating… so I’ve dialed mine back to see if that changes anything.

Then today I ran it for about 10 minutes to see if it’d smoke and it seemed okay… then I noticed the nut and stud on the number 4 cylinder were wet looking, and looking closer you can see a sort of bubbling of a liquid… haven’t been able to find any threads about something similar, any ideas what would cause this? It’s torqued to spec I checked it again today, and that’s the stud with the knock pin so no o rings or anything…

From the film fragment and the mentioning of an oiltank I can even say for sure it's a 750F2 :)

 Copper washer under the nut?

Sorry all I can't believe how many times I do that... but yes prize goes to rob, 77 F2!

That stud doesn't have the copper washers, and I did anneal them and make sure the domed nuts were on top of those...

Maybe a copper washer and/or a domed nut would fix the bubbler. There's a yamaha that uses domed head nuts, banshee maybe? I used them on main studs.

The F2/3 engines are famous for wearing out their valve guides quickly. Like, 8000 miles quickly in many instances. This will make them smoke, and can also put oil onto the exhaust pipes at the head.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.
