CBX
« on: January 03, 2014, 01:39:31 PM »
A Dealer in my area has a CBX , 1983 I think.  It's stock, about a ninety out of a hundred. He wants $9,400 for it. Don't have any pics. Is this in the ballpark? Thanks, Bob

Depends on how many miles, condition, and how bad you want it. Normally they go for around $6000 - $6500 around here and we are a pretty pricey area for older classic bikes. Deosn't mean that someone won't throw a super rediculous price on something just to see if he can get it.

The 79s fetch the most money, which is odd because the later bikes were better in many respects, except for a small amount of power that affected little more than 1/4 mile times. A solid runner '79 will sell for either side of 5K. A really really nice 79 with excellent paint and clean carbs and great finish on the metal and plastic might fetch 8K. A SUPER nice one that is all original, less than 10K miles could fetch as much as 10K. I personally have never seen a Prolink (faired monoshock 81 or 82) CBX fetch anything north of  $7,500.

TL:DR That dealer is smoking dope, but as they say, there is an ass for every seat and perhaps he finds one for this one.

That bike is crap - incorrect red paint, black front fender, no decals on the glossy painted sidecovers (should be flat), aftermarket seat cover, non-original exhaust, no chain guard, missing a mirror, black plastic oxidized, likely more. That's a $3,500 CBX, IF it starts and idles really well and the tank is clean inside.

Thanks for the feed back. I thought it was high. Maybe I'll throw a trade and cash at him? I really like the CBX.

Thanks again, Bob

looks a bit "used"..need a total restarasion..karbs..elektric paint tires..prob exhausts..it vill end at dubbel preis on road.(.if the engine are saund.).and not rattels..duchams  cam koblings /chlutch housing are vorn and valve seals and piston rings...oil using and 3 gear pops aut under high load..and generator chlutch are worn aut..and the viring in generator are cracket/burned
the most common fails on old cbx.

.bay a runner...and take it for a LONG ride...before paying..

The bike is pretty typical of craigs list around here. Lots of "Gold Plated Dog Turds"........

If the bike was yours would you take $3500 for it?  Probably not.

I bought a 81 CBX back in 88. I paid $1500 for it. The rear rim was bent, it pissed me off...... I sold it for $2000  "STUPID"

One of the members of my local club, the OFMC, bought a cbx in 1979.  He took it home in the shipping box, kept it in his garage until Barbers last year.  He took it out, put it on display, listing among other things that it had never been started.  He "just wanted to put it on display".  On Sat, a man came by and asked what he wanted for it, He said "$40.000."  The reply was "I'll give you $37,500."  Long story short, the bike now belongs to a collector in the Dakotas.

Why didn't I keep my 55 chevy?

Not surprised. School bikes bring big money also.

I was very fortunate that I had a buddy who had the '80 CBX that I now own. He had gone through it, replaced what it needed, serviced it up and detailed it.  Eddie not only did he do all of that, he gave me a great deal on it. Matter of fact,  he has it at his place now, until I have some decent room to put it inside here. Loving my CBX.
