I'm not the biggest fan of the stock taillight.  I'd recommend a Lucas style replacement.

You could look at the tail lights off smaller Honda's, I have one of an early Honda {can't remember what model atm} and also like the tail lights off the CT90/110, the early ones are small and look stock as well... ;)

Thanks guys! See page 5, I went with the Lucas style and I really really like how it looked! After a few mods  8)

The lights are easy. Is it a turn and running light or just a turn signal. It will specify which type the light is. If it is just a turn then one is ground, and like mentioned the black/white is most likely the power.

Had planned on getting more work done today, but I got a call from the Maryland Transportation Police asking me to come in for a interview, so I had to go! Hoping I get a job offer here soon!

Well anyway, all i had time for was assembling the throttle and new cables, WOW didn't realize how tricky that was gonna be!  Painted the switches as well, still have to do the red button and touch up a little where I missed a spot.  So is it going to be very hard to get the cables adjusted correctly once the carbs come back on?

Havnt had to much time to get down and do to much work, don't want to waste your time with little updates, I will have a chance to be productive tomorrow, but I'm starting to think of ideas for the painting of the tank and side covers.  My dads friend will be doing it at his paint shop,  thinking I should go with the same color if he can match it.

Paint looks ok in the pictures, but its very faded and old looking, I will eventually get new decals after i get it painted.

Here you can see the only dent it has, right on top.  Wondering if i could fill this with bondo or something? Then smooth it down?  I have never used the stuff before so I'm a newbie with body work.  Maybe Jb Weld could fill it?  Ideas, or links?

You might be able to pop that dent back out with pretty good success. There don't appear to be any serious creases so it should pop out fairly smooth.

How do i go about doing that? Any tips or links that would be helpful? Never done that before.

Search YouTube for "compressed air dent removal." That dent may be a good candidate for that trick... And it's cheap too.

To clarify, the compressed air method I was referring to is where you heat the dented area with a hair dryer for 3-5 minutes. Then, immediately take a can of compressed air held upside down and spray the dent. The propellant that sprays out will freeze on the tank and the sudden temperature change causes the metal to contract suddenly, popping the dent out. DO NOT pressurize the inside of the fuel tank. That will just cause more damage to these old tanks.

Here's an example.

Lots of good info here but if your Dad's mate has a paint shop I'd be inclined to let him do it. He'll have his method and use materials that won't react with or shrink under the new paint. Maybe go over and see how he does it? In the meantime, pick up an old beat up tank you can hone your skills on, if you learn to do this stuff it will save you a packet in the long run.

Had a good day yesterday!  Got the Handlebars wires run, switches fixed, and installed!  Probably not a huge deal to you guys, but for me it was a big accomplishment! I Love the look!  Headlight is on just for the picture, i still have to connect the wires in the bucket.

Master Cylinder is a little close now though, we will see if this becomes a problem.  I need to paint it still though.

Setting everything up was a bit tricky with the broken switch wires.

Switch Assembled with the new wires soldered back in.

Tapped the new wire back into the wire that connects in the headlight.

Tried to paint the kill switch but it was not a success, ill be taking this paint off.

Also installed new throttle cables which were a little tricky, I ended up running them differently then stock due to the shorter bars. I don't see this being a issue.

And a Huge thanks to Steve-O who sent me new tappet covers that I broke last week. Thanks man!

My mate had two bikes stolen after publishing his address over the internet. The phone book doesn't provide details of what classic motorcycles you have in your basement, so I don't see why you think it's ok. Why don't we start a new thread 'Post your bike's exact location' and see how many replies we get?

Maybe I'm just being over-cautious, not my problem at the end of the day :-\

I understand that, and thanks for looking out, only the bike isn't at my house or my basement.  If a problem arises ill take care of it.

Well my dad came by the shop, and said I needed a toolbox that was organized, so he gave me one of his old ones! Score!

Starting to think about replacing the shocks while I have everything dissembled.  DCC has two I'm interested in, but I'm unsure of what size to get. I'm a bigger guy at 6'1 200 pounds, so I would assume a heavier shock would be better.

Mine right now are a little bouncy.

Also starting prepping for parts I want to paint with the high temp black paint.  Still have to Drain the oil and get the clutch cover off.  Hoping the gasket on it is in tact.  If not, where would be a good place to look?

This is after starting out the top with some light abrasives and scotch bright.

Also finished the Tail Light and fender, Still have to install the new turn signals, I was wondering if I should ground both to my already existing bolt I'm grounding to, or find somewhere else to ground??

2stroke -

+1 on the Hagons.  I have a couple of pairs and they are fantastic.  Give him a call, he will set the shocks up to your size, weight and intended riding style.

Also, they look stock, and Ikon means Koni!

I have no relations to him other than being a satisfied customer.
