who cares? worst case scenario, you may need to re-ring it. Plenty of these bikes run for over 100k miles if properly maintained. For $550 you aren't getting a stock, new condition bike.

Alright you all talked me into it! I set up a appointment 2 days from now with the guy!  Just worried someone else is gonna come along!

Appt??  Go get it now!  You think he's going to put it in "lay away" for you?
Did you read the ad, first one with $550 gets it....

Man if I were you I'd jump on that in a flash.

Jeeze Jezze!! Im going to pick it up Wednesday! Put a down payment on it already!  Happy now!!??  ;D ;D

That's more like it, yes happy now. And you can't chop it up.  That bike in original stock cond would be worth $2K plus.  Prob is, needs stock exhaust to get to that value, hard to find and or pricey.
But easily worth $1000-1500 with just minor work. Good score.

Sorry for the lack of updates, The 500f has been taking up my time!  Sent the Carbs out today to be rebuilt due to time constraints and I really need the bike running in abut 2 weeks, plus I won't have to worry about them.

Finally baked the parts in the Oven to cure

New Oil Filter installed, painted housing, looking good.  I love putting this stuff back together!

Will be back at it Tomorrow!

After baking the parts I installed them, except the clutch cover while I'm still waiting for a gasket to come in.  Its not perfect, but its ok with me.  I used the high temp grey pain on the "Honda" on the plate.

Finally cleaned up the 4into4 getting ready to have my welder braze them over.  Just the Pipes and the carbs and she will be done.

Only thing I was worried about, I ( By Mistake ) moved the kickstarter spring and now I'm not sure I put it back in correctly.  Is it supposed to be wound up?  The manual is next to useless on this.

Hard to see in this picture, but the other prong on the spring is toward the middle of the picture.  Does the spring just sit in there or does it hold tight and not move at all? I feel like it just slid out no problem but now i have it sorta wound up in there

Tyler,
Does the kickstart lever feel like it's got some initial tension on it ?

Lever isn't installed as I'm waiting on a gasket to arrive. I just don't wanna reinstall and then tear it back down

I suggest that you install the lever just enough to tell how much tension is on that spring, that'll tell you if you have it in and wound correctly.

It looks like the inner spring isn't in the hole. There is a pocket just inside that it sits in the the outer spring clips on the casting shelf on the left and the right on the lower casting shelf like you have it.

Tyler - check out Dagersh's 550 resto build thread. He just went thru this issue. Now, different bikes obviously, but the same principles may apply. His pics are better too!  ;)

Thanks guys as always!  An what hole? I see a little notch, is that it?

Tyler,
I've never removed one of those kickstarters on the CB500/550,but according to what the member says "the inner spring",it's possible that they're a double spring set-up in there.
