Update from Tennessee! Went shopping and saw these pouches and immediately my bike popped into my mind!  Thinking maybe I could turn these into vintage looking Sidebag or bags?  Almost like a vintage messenger bag. But I want to be able to remove them with a strap.  They were only 3$ a piece so if I can't make them into anything I'm not out much  ;D  But either way I'm going to give it a try!

Anyone have an thoughts or Ideas? Am I crazy?

So is the census no on these? I think maybe it would look cool with some work!  And I have seen that picture before, but it would be nice to throw something little in the bags, we will see when I get back to Baltimore!

Like you guys already said, I'm only 20.  I have literally only seen 3 other vintage Hondas and I'm betting you all have seen more then you can remember.  Therefore ill bet you know what looks good and what doesn't.  let you know when i get home tomorrow and try and mock something up!

I was actually thinking of trying to make some utilitarian, removable bags for my 500. The problem I ran into is my muffler is up swept and does not leave enough room on the right side for a bag. I have since resigned myself to just using a backpack.

Got back from Tennessee and was so tired of being in the car I decided to go down and get a few things done:

Had prepped and PlastiDiped my new gauges before I left so they had plenty of time to Dry and Cure, Painted right over the gauge faces because then I just peeled it off and cleaned up the rim.

Done, turned out great. Looks Brand New!

Other parts painted, they all look good except the Idiot Lights that got paint on the Faceplate I'll have to deal with.  And I went to thick on the back, but you can't really see it after its installed so I'm not worried about it.

Also take a look at the frame, not sure if you can see it or not, but I did a light spray of PlastiDip over the gloss black I put on 2 weeks ago, gives it a little more rough look, but protects the gloss underneath.

Installed my new tach cable, after letting the old screw that holds it in soak in some penetrating oil while I was away.  New one is much much more loose then the old.

Mocked up a idea for the leather pouches I bought, possibilities?

Question though, The old Turn Signals signals only had one wire with bullet connectors, the new ones i got have 2.  I know there is another wire that acts as the ground for both on the left side, but what should I do about the 2 wires on the new ones?

Regarding your Plasti-Dip on the frame: make sure you hit the frame with some ScotchBrite before painting. This will provide better adhesion, otherwise the new paint will fail in short order.

Your indicator lights: one wire should be the ground wire the other the signal wire. Petty common for all new vintage units to be 2 wire.
Thanks for the tip on the scotch bright!  So i just group the other wire wherever?

You can plug the ground for the turn into most any available ground plug. The indicators on my 500 had a ground wire running off of the nut so I just reused those connections.

Alright thanks! Im no Electrician so this is very helpful, i don't wanna plug into something i shouldn't be tapping!  Do you think in the picture of the turn signal above, the solid black would be ground? and white and black is for power?

You are probably right. Most new turns use solid black as ground. However, if those are LED turns you can't really hurt them. If you happen to plug them in backwards they just won't work. The easiest way to test them is to put the leads on a 9V battery. Whichever wire is on the negative terminal when it lights up is your ground.

Great thanks again! And they're not LED so it should be a issue testing, i gotta go fins a 9V

Well you have your good days and your bad days guys, today was a mix of both:

A friend of mine was cleaning his grandfathers basement and found some things he thought I would like, needless to say I left with a smile!

Decided to take a look at what kind of valve clearance I was looking at, when this happened :-[
Visions of taking the head off and machine shops thoughts danced in my head.

But I managed to back the broken thread out!

It will run like this right guys??

Lurking in the Darkness, sad  :-\

Anybody want to donate a new tappet cover to this build???  ;D

Can't help with the tappet cover but well done getting the old thread out. With regard to your light wires, if it is a regular globe then it wont matter which wire goes were as an old globe is not much more than a resistor that glows. This means that no matter which way the electricity flows it will glow.

Hey 2 Stroke - I have one from a 550/750 that I can donate.  Do a little research to confirm they are the same size.

Awesome thanks for the info!

Be sure to use a smear of anti-seize on the tappers upon assembly to prevent that in the future.

Yeah thats probably the best thing to do, I was thinking to run the bike and get her nice and hot before attempting to take the rest off.

Used my Dremel with a abrasive wire wheel on the rocker covers and pulled off the yellowed clear coat. It may not look perfect by any means, but it looks better then yellow peeling crap.  Here you can see the line of where i used the Dremel and where i did not.

Both sides seemed to come out great.

This looks like the flasher relay, and it appears that one of the connections has broke off, explaining my turn signal problem, you can see this green wire not connected to anything, and the place it should be connected but is not.

Also took off the tail light, I think with the lower 400f handlebars the bike will flow very well, but that huge tailight kinda throws that off.

Im ordering this one from Dime City Cycles....Thoughts??  Link to DCC:
http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-electronic-lighting-parts-hooded-gloss-black-lucas-taillight-light-20-1081-gbpc.html

Any reason this is the only bolt to be rusted?  I know these cause trouble getting off, but i want to and change the filter in there.  Just wondering if maybe it looks like someone tried to fool with it!

I don't have any tools for polishing, and i don't really know how to anyway.  So i used allot of never dull, it seemed to clean these forks up well, not perfect but well,  The marks on the bottom are whats left of old stickers the original owner had put on.

Thanks for the write up.  Did you ever figure out where that green wire goes?  I have the same detached green wire and a non responsive rear right blinker.  Thanks,

You could look at the tail lights off smaller Honda's, I have one of an early Honda {can't remember what model atm} and also like the tail lights off the CT90/110, the early ones are small and look stock as well... ;)
