Got to work draining the Oil and removing the Clutch Cover.  Cut a hole in the table and the oil drained right through!





Super Helpful tip from the site. Im a country boy, not an Artist. don't judge!   



Cant say I really know what a clutch is supposed to look like, but it seems to be ok in there.







There is some sort of sludge in the bottom of the cover, ill have to get it out.



Well this has seen better days, undecided if i want to paint just the "Honda" or paint around it and leave that alone.

No, it's just a cover with 10-12 bolts, same as the clutch cover. You will need a new gasket of course. You may be surprised on whats in there?

I hope you find a person to patch/braze some sheet metal onto your header pipes.They run SO much better w/ the stock pipes in the low-mid range rpms.

Thanks for the heads up, I will probably just wait till I have the bike back together because i can't get to the bolts on the table.  Where is a good place for gaskets? I don't want a cheap one that leaks! And i assume clean the pump as well?

I actually have a really good welder who has welded his entire life and he said he would give it a shot.  If not I saw a post about someone who filled his holes with JB Weld and spray painted silver over it.

     I used only the method of brazing good quality sheet metal onto the exhaust.JBweld or similar muffler patch putty will blow out.The areas you have that are rusty,is it at the bottom of the head pipes ? I know it'll be a good thing to braze some pre-bent pieces of steel onto there and make it overlap the holes a little;after you've prepped it,you're friend will need you to hold each piece down while he tacks it.Braze will completely seal those areas and strengthen the pipe and it'll last for the life of the bike.

Would they have clutch cover gaskets that are good as well?

Used most of today up painting, sanding, stripping, prep work, and more and more painting.  Also Painted the side sprocket cover, stator cover, rear brake, and the exhaust flanges.  Il post picture of them later after i check on the curing and how well the high temp paint has set.   But here is a few of today, and a question I am a little worried about.

Soaked these puppies in a chemical mixture I made up and removed all the rust from them.  Almost to good to paint!



Started to strip before paint.



Heres the question, I was beginning to start prep on the clutch cover when I notice the gasket is bent,  Not wanting to risk it i tried to take it off, but it literally crumbled and parts of it are still stuck to the cover, so the new one isn't going to sit flush.





Heres what came off, but the rest is stuck good on there! SOMEONE PLEASE HAVE A TRICK FOR THIS!

  Vesrah is Good quality gaskets man;they'll sell you the complete gasket kit for the whole engine.I bought mine off of ebay from a seller named "motorcycle solutions" Local shops should be able to order it for you also.

I regularly use a one-sided razor blade to clean gaskets off of the covers,be careful about digging into the aluminum though,it'll take persistant patience.They also have a gasket remover spray chemical you can use to soften the gaskets before scraping them off,I usually do it w/o that though because that stuff'll get underneath your fingernails & it's strong acid.

I buy my gaskets on eBay too.  A sharp chisel and beer will remove the old gasket.

No Bull,could you send me the complete recipe w/ the correct ratio's per each ingredient  and how much to heat ? I'm not a Science major or anything so if you could break it down for me as a blue collar worker guy.I'd LOVE to get my exhaust diffusers looking like that  How does that mix leave the finish of the chrome,still shiny ?

No Bull,could you send me the complete recipe w/ the correct ratio's per each ingredient  and how much to heat ? OK the mixture isn't super super perfect, it changes on what type of metal because of how quick the covalent bonds will break down the components.  This is what I ran by my chemistry teacher and he advised me to be careful not to add more then this:

2oz of Phosphoric Acid first.
Mix 1oz of Vinegar in with a wooden peg.
OK now make some ready rice in the microwave and add a little water, because this will stop the flash rust issue. Then 1oz Hydrochloric Acid and make a "mash" and add that in.   Heat up some Nitric Acid OUTSIDE to about 95 and let it cool to about 80 and mix it in.  In your poly tub drop your flanges in and shake the crap out of it.  Let it sit 24 hours and wash em off.  Wear gloves! and be careful.  After you strip them mine have come out shiny I'm not sure what happens to the metal but this has worked twice for mine!  I wouldn't recommend this for other parts as I'm not sure what would happen.

I was thinking of doing that chemical bath treatment as you've described and then using High heat silver I'd spray some into a cap and then paint only the parts that're bare metal;I'd polish the paint back toward the chrome just a little w/ fine steel wool.
But that's just me,if I had the $ I'd rechrome it All.

Your idea seems like it would work just fine, but for me it was mostly to remove impurities and rust so the paint would seal correctly. Im pretty sure these will get the most heat being right on the exhaust head.
