How many of us have stopped to check on a fellow rider?
« on: September 04, 2006, 01:40:41 PM »
Something i got thinking about recently. How many of us stop to see whats going on with a fellow rider when we see them on the side of the road looking their bike over? I was in my car just a few min ago on my way home and i spotted a rider parked at the side looking his bike over as if there was a problem with the machine. I stopped and seen if he needed any help he said he was alright but he needed directions to get to somewhere in the city...without thinking on it i offered to guide him there with the car instead of giving mixed up directions by accident. Got him where he needed to go and i felt good about helping a fellow rider no matter what brand of bike they ride.

I have stopped for more than a few riders on the side of the road.
Usually they give me the cold shoulder, are on their cellphone, waiting for a buddy , or act better then me.
But, once in awhile I get a thank you outta them.

Comming back from the last WER I stopped for a guy on a Harley that ran out of petrol. Looked at my GPS where the next petrol station was (20kMs) Popped the tank of my K6 and gave him a litre or two. That should have gotten him there.

LOL He was driving a Harley? That'd have gotten him half there!  ;D

If I'm on the bike I usually stop to see if other guys are OK if stopped.

I usually stop, even if they give me a dirty look as some Harley owners do. Don't care thier brand I atleast check on them. I would hope they would for me.

Thats the way i look at it as well...figured that if i was courtious enough to check on a fellow rider in trouble that eventually i would recieve the same if i ever needed it. I was in the car at the time since project K4 is far from ready to hit the road...(freakin late ordering of the manual....)

I always do. I've never gotten a sneer, usually a thanks. It only takes a second and costs nothing. What goes around, comes around. I'm frequently asked if I need help even if I'm just stopped taking a break on the side of the road.

I only stop for the ones who look like they don't really need help. I wouldn't know what to do, anyway- I'm useless.

I'm a bit the same - but I stop anyway in case I can give them a lift of they haven't got a mobile phone etc. I do this whether I'm on my bike or in the car.
Years ago I had a smash on a busy suburban road (my fault, going like mad, late for work, through an intersection on a slight curve, hit major bump - into orbit), and with dozens, nay hundreds, of commuters sitting in their tintops just staring at me lying on the road, one of whom wound down her window and abused me for going too fast (don't worry that I was hurt or anything!) the only person to stop and offer some help was the biggest ugliest meanest looking dude on a Harley wearing the colurs of the baddest nastiest gang in town. He helped me up, picked up my 750 (one handed I think!) and helped me to the side of the road, and waited with me until the ambo came. He mumbled something about jap crap not handling too good - but I let him get away with that.  ;)
So I don't care what they're on - I'll help if I can. I think we all should.

I've  stopped quite a few times.  I always try to stop if I can.  I've only had to help once but I always try to stop.

Stopped to help a couple of Harley riders the other day. They were just taking a break and were actually polite and civil. I usually do stop if I see anyone broke down, car or bike. God knows that I have been in that very same situation more times than I can count.

I just about always stop,  always for a fellow CBer.  I have a bit of a story like Petercb750,  my bike just quit outside Fredericksburg VA, no electric , no nothing.  I had no idea what to do.  Cars just driving by with no sympathy.  Finally an old ratty pick up does a U-turn right in the middle of the road and comes back.  The quintessential redneck, Harley window sticker, empty beer cans rattling around in the cab guy steps out and finds the main fuse in a heart beat, which had blown, and rigs a spare like McGuver, and points me in the direction on the nearest MC shop.  I never got his name but I'll always remember his help.  Learned not to judge the rider by the bike that day.

maiden voyage of the "black pearl" coming back up from Nashvegas to STLouis i pushed the tank and ran out...i had my buddy following in his truck and he went on down to the next station to get a jugfull of gas - as i sat there waiting a dude and his gf pulled up on their Harleys and offerred to help me out.

i thanked them politely and they rode on.

i look forward to the day i can help out another rider...

I have stooped a couple of times this summer to help, funny it was new Harley's both times. One rear brake was locking up, the other the dealer had not torqued the sprocket bolts on one of those solid wheels after replacing the tire and messed the threads up.Big money there. Dannie

Always, especially if they look desperate.

I stopped once for a fellow rally-goer when we were doing the Alberta 2000 rally. He had run out of gas, so I rode into the nearest town, filled up a 2 litre pop bottle and rode back. It wasn't until the end of the rally that I found out that you are not allowed to help anyone during the course of the event!

I had a flat on the VFR once and while I was waiting for roadside assistance (forgot to get new rubber glue for the puncture repair kit I always carry) the only person who stopped was a guy in a truck who turned out to be a hard core HD fan. He even offered to put the bike in the truck and give me a ride! Nice fellow.
