Ah, makes sense. Thanks. These engines really are a blast to work on. Clutch was stuck, read up a bit here and perused the factory manual and in 1 hour flat it was overhauled and working peachy. Longest was cleaning up the old crusty gasket.

Now there's this "Thoughts of HondaMan" thread that I hadn't noticed before, and if I'm not careful this is going to seriously put a dent on my productivity at work. Takes some serious willpower to resist... Maybe while I warm up from this morning's commute (21 degrees, rode on the highway to avoid laying it down on the snot-covered back roads)?

My response about the stop tangs on the advance mechanism are made because the title of the thread is "Advancing too far" . The factory timing advance has a specific range it should be within. If everything else is correct and the "advance is going to far" then the tabs that stop the advance have to be out of whack. This isn't something I've dreamed up but a fact that has been proven. I've checked my "CB750 Shop Manual" which gives the starting and ending specs. If the timing is going past that point then IMHO the "stop tabs" have to be out of adjustment. Hmmm.   ...cougar...

also as the entire units moving parts wear the stack up of error is increased, like how sloppy are the weights on the pivot pins etc.
