A Couple of CB750 Questions to Make Life Easier.....
« on: September 06, 2006, 06:58:40 PM »
I had a real hard time getting my sparkplugs in and out once the engine was in the frame, the wire harness was installed, and the oil cooler put in-place. Can someone tell me where to get a 3/8" drive socket that best works on the #2 and #3 plugs, please? Do I need a certain length, a swivel type? What size/type "works"?

I've bought 3 sets of aftermarket disc pads now. None of them will let the wheel turn once bolted-up and torqued to the 20 lbs required. The bracket and both caliper halves are the original 9,000 items I took off the bike. Am I the only person to have this problem?

Input appreciated.

Regards,
Gordon

Try to find a thin walled, 18mm long reach socket, or if you have the under-seat took kit, use the one in there. I use a small u-joint on mine, it makes it a bit easier to hand start them when replacing them. Oh, make sure the socket, if you get one, has the rubber insert to hold the plug in place within the socket, it helps.

Can't offer much help on the brake pads. The replacements I used caused no problems as to fitment.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Gordon,
I got an 18mm deep socket from Sears. (3/8ths drive).  Works great.

Or you can do this with an 18mm Autozone deep socket.  The number two plug hole is not accessible with a regular socket unless very thin.  This one works fine with a standard 3 inch extension.

Guys, I went down and bought the 18mm deep sparkplug socket from Autozone. I already had the swivel, so I'm good to go.

I also took my new aftermarket pads to my NAPA machine shop and the machinist took .060 off of the surface for me. Problem solved - 2 pairs $5 !!

Thanks,
Gordon
