It was 32 deg C (90 deg F) at 8am, so not much happening in my old steel garage today. I don't mind the heat during the week when I'm at work daydreaming about what I'm gonna do on the weekend, but it pissed me off when the weekend rolls around and it's too fcuking hot to do anything! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Larry - you live outside suburbia and on a well? I do and every time power goes we are susceptible to the same issues. Installed solar hot water and small panel to run my well pump. Gotta have water. The solar hot water system is sufficient to create enough standing hot water for about 2 days of showers for 6 people.

That and a whole house generator and we've said goodbye to suffering at the hands of the public utilities. But I feel for you and your neighbors during this season.

I fortunately did not lose power but thousands of people around me are still without.  It has to be tough to be without for a week. I work at Home Depot where sales of generators are through the roof.  I think of installing a generator for my well and heat but have never lost power for any extended period of time so I keep putting it off, after 66 years of rarely needing one I think I'll continue without...   How expensive were the solar hot water and panel to run the pump? ...Larry

Hot water system was $5k installed. But it provides entire HW 365. 4 kids, twice daily dish washer, about 10-12 showers a day. Circulates into a 250 gal storage tank.

The irony around here is summer storms. Pretty dang heavy. But the very next day, it's 100 degrees and sunny. So solar works great!

About $1500 for the well pump system (heavy amperage reqs).

$6500 for peace of mind for a family of 6 is a bargain.  I am widowed and live alone-son is temporarily(permanent?) with me  so I can bear a short inconvenience, at least at the present time

True. But, if your son ever moves out and you want some company, let me know. I'll take an opening for less congestion and chaos! He'll, I'll even bring a generator!

I used to live in the country, Gap is out there but I am at the corner of a fairly major intersection(Rtes  41 and 10) which took awhile to get used to the noise but I've adjusted after a year.  I am actually considering moving farther south-maybe my mood will change after winter but this year has been awful with the cold and frequency of snow, I've only ridden 3x this year >:( :(

Thing is Damfino I almost live in the southern plant zone-just a few miles from the Mason/Dixon Line,  we normally have 3 or 4 snow storms a year-one heavy one and the rest minimal.

the only time I ever complained about the heat is down in sunny, unbearably humid Florida.  It had to be 95/95 everyday from April to October.  Oh well, it will end soon, unless you're right and hell has frozen over....Larry

What a brutal winter this has been. I'm wondering why I even bother to put my frozen goods (groceries) in the freezer any more, it's colder outside than it is in the freezer...maybe unplug it and put the frozen goods in one of the trucks.
The snow  I can handle, it's the cold...Haven't spent a full day in the shop in months, an hour at a time is all I could take.
Need spring to get here fast. At least the Dayton 500 is close. That is the mental heralding of spring for me.

Same here Larry, we've got some massive uncontrolled bushfires with 20 mile frontages, lots of houses destroyed (no deaths reported so far, thank God) power outages due to power poles destroyed in the fires, and the whole state of Victoria is blanketed in smoke. I'll take the snow mate, send some over please............. ;D

Are bush fires common down under Terry?   There have been some massive ones out west but a 20 mile frontage  during my years on the earth  is a tad on the large size.....Larry
