Trial and error.

I had heard most to be using the thick spacer, so I did just that. Turned out it was way too much by a specific amount. Had to disassemble, but it wasn't too bad being that there was a thick spacer back there to help drive out. I figured that if the spacer's width measurements were subtracted, then it would be ideal. Turned out, Whola.

The proper way is to assemble the old bottom with at least 3 balls, check theinstalled height and choose washer to match the height.

And you are right, mess it up and you will have to remove the race - impossible without damage.

Good news is Allballs will sell you just one bearing - and dont ask how I know

I used the thinner washer and it seems to line up the fork ears well. will find out for sure when I tighten the steering nut down more than hand tight.

working on the gas tank liner today. about to start the 8 hours of hair dryer to get it bone dry. also working on rear brake, hub. and front hub.....and yolandas carbs...gah!

Tell you what Chef, I don't see anything to replace on that rear rim. The inner rust is minor and the spokes don't seem to have any rust. That wheel looks like it would clean up like new with some elbow grease and 0000 steel wool.

already got new rims, spokes, tires. bearings etc. gonna rechrome stuff to so rims would out of place. going for showroom quality here

Can't you just notch the bearing spacer in 2 spots...180 degrees apart....then you can remove bearing EasyPeasy.. When fitting.. ..

I thot everyone does that..

I actually don't know what you mean there, but the bearing is on after I measured the previous stack so I should be good to go.

small update, here is the frame finished

here is the tank in all of it's current glory. this is prepping for POR-15 tank coating. it has served me well on Yolanda, as long as its BONE dry prior to using the coating. went over well

now the tank has aircraft remover on the outside to help strip off the paint. I will be ordering paint for the tins soon!

visited Bill today and got him my 450 pistons, cam chain, and gaskets. he will be poking around at the engine, and I will have to make it back up soon. today we spent time tearing my K1 engine down to nothing

gotta go update that thread too.

I also successfully got the fork seals out. that took a lot of force. got the circlips out after some fuss, and then took the top nuts off and springs out and used the tube as a slide hammer to pop the seals out. sounds easy...it was not. much easier on my 750 that I remember, but now the forks are apart. funny thing too....the fork assembly is exactly the same part numbers as my 71' 750. I think the whole front end except triples and fork ears are the same actually. makes it easier.

I also got the brake caliper finished. painted, cleaned, fresh seal, pads. it's ready to go as soon as I drop a speed bleeder in there.

aftermarket, I could not find any NOS ones that I could afford

I have been riding aftermarket shocks like these on my 750 for months without problem. they are shiny yes, I will be sending off a lot of parts for chroming too. once you start......you can't leave anything "old" or it sticks out like a sore thumb

I used it in my 750K1 build a year ago. it has held up just fine since april of 2013 when I started using the tank. 6000 miles through that tank without issue. if your tank looks good already don't need it, but both tanks were terrible and really needed something. I used a hairdryer for 5 hours straight into the top hole to get it bone dry. I cannot emphasize it being dry enough. the POR15 will harden in water, I found that out with the leftover, but the problem is it won't adhere to the tank if there is any moisture present, and it will float off the side, possibly clogging your petcock/carbs. then the bald area in your tank can cause the surrounding areas to peel off etc.

If you do this to the spacers, you can pry up the bearing, and change spacer, if you chose the wrong thickness.

Don't worry I've been hard at work, literally. Logging 60 hour work weeks to buy parts for this thing, and of course doing little things here and there. Currently have the outside of the tank 90% stripped. Thankful for angle grinder with wire wheel. My hands are numb but the tank is looking good. Side covers, fork ears and headlight bucket are primed. Just need to buy my primer, paint and clearcoat
