Speedometer trip meter knob screw kaput
« on: January 04, 2014, 03:38:23 PM »
CB350F speedometer trip meter knob screw was rusted and phillips slots crumbled.  so head was drilled off. I think this is common. Coming up with a replacement is hard to imagine. Small, long, fine threads.

Besides glue what can i use to hold the knob on the shaft?

I'll try to find a very small generic metric machine screw. Will post size that works.

I was thinking about using a twist on electrical home wire connector. Or the type with a set screw.

Then I got a used replacement part from a friend. Thanks Reid!

I had the same idea, but could never find one that fit...finally ended up finding a smashed up speedo at a swap meet for cheap and stripped it for parts...
If it works good, it looks good...

screw size M2-.04 4mm works, it could be longer I think, like 6mm or maybe 8mm.  Went to hobby shop and got several that did not work.  these came from Amazon for about $4.  now can fit 99 more gauge knobs.

You can get them at home depot in all kinds of shapes and colors
They work wonders

M2-0.4 4mm is too short.  Knob hole depth is 3 mm-4mm and shaft hole is 8 mm so screw can be no more than 12mm.  Ordering 8mm since that is what's available on amazon. 100 count for $3.30.  Should work with locktight.

The lamp knob idea is a good one.
