You know what grinds my gears?
« on: January 04, 2014, 06:02:28 PM »
Nothing pisses me off more than buying parts off someone and they don't include any hardware. Now, I get to spend a bunch of my time hunting down nuts and bolts! Why do people feel that hardware are worth their weight in gold?!

All the bolts to a 74 cb550 ;D

I picked up a gl1000 front end and I'm missing the lower triple tree bolts that hold the tubes AND the bolts that hold the brake calipers to the lower fork tubes.

Some sellers tear down a bike, let everything fall on the floor and basically sweep all the nuts and bolts in a bag.  Normally, when I'm looking for an odd nut or bolt, it's only one or two things I need so I've never bought those "grab bags" as they call them...

No special shanks, just frustrating to get parts home just to find out you can't do fuvk-all with them until you wild goose chase some nuts and bolts! Especially when I only have so much time allotted from the fiancé to spend messing around in the garage.

Cal, I'll be buying a bolt gauge and tap and die set this week! Anyone know where I can get specs on BS bolts like the ones mentioned above?

I keep a couple boxes with all 6mm allen heads sizes, and nuts, 8mm's, lock and flat washers  too.
Sometimes I reuse Phillips ( stock fasteners)when I feel like looking stock, between the cleaning and polishing, weeding out the damaged ones and not wanting to FK with impact drivers anymore, I like Allens better, as long as I keep them stocked. I can measure pressure with torque wrench. It makes life easier on me.
I don't enter my machines in shows, so I don't loose points for non original parts, I enjoy these machines for what they are, they make me happy, especially with Allens.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

Jordan - I've got the original caliper bolt for the setup I sent you. One was not original, one was. Both were badly buggered up, so I didn't send them. If you want the specs for the original, I can give you that.

Cal, I found a gl1000 full front end off of a guy locally for a steal so I picked it up. Shoot me your address so I can send you my swing arm and these brake parts back!

Keep or pass the brake parts along to someone else. Hold tight on the swing arm, I've got 2 to work from. When we get your done, we can cross ship (you'd better hold on to it just in case there's a problem with the mods too).

Did you ever decide about your tire/rim size for the rear?

Picked up a 16" wheel, need to pull the tire off to get an accurate measurement.
