Hello again? from Southeastern Va
« on: January 03, 2014, 05:22:12 PM »
I've been lurking for a little while and really like this site! I bought my first cb750 in April and I love it. It's a 78. It had some wiring issues that PO couldn't fix so I think I wound up with a real good deal on it. It would blow the main fuse when the key was turned on, none of the lights worked and much of the wiring was a mess. I got it running and wiring fixed right away. I was very surprised when I took it out the first time. I've owned a lot of bikes in my life but never a cb anything and nothing modern. I've wanted the 750 for a long time but didn't have the opportunity to buy one, now I have 3 :) A 76 and 2 78's. The other 78 and the 76 don't run but have made great part bikes.
I have to run but will post some pic's later.

Here is what it looks like now, I've cleaned it up some and sanded, painted & installed the 4 to 1 that were on the 76.It had the 2to2's on it. I've also done brake work, points, removed & cleaned the carbs, new battery, headlight, just a lot of small stuff. I bought paint for another bike last winter that I will now use on this on soon. Its 2 part, has a hardener. I'm not sure about frame color yet but think maybe red. The tank will be from the 76, so will the oil tank. I still have to shape the fenders form one of the other bikes, sand & paint them as well. I want black & white on the tank, side covers and the frame color on forks and spokes (shocks and springs, rims and hubs I don't know yet) I might also clear coat, that's another unknown until I see the paint. I did that last time with glitter mixed in, looked nice but seemed a little soft and easy to ding. I added hardener too. I hope to make a seat pan at some point, we'll see. Still undecided on bars, controls, signals and really the rest of it. I have to watch my spending, I'd like to keep my wife :) I'll start the tank prep tomorrow. I have a lot of pics but haven't had the time to re-size them yet. I'll get more up soon.

Welcome from VA!

When you took it out for the first time, was it a good surprise?   Just wondering  ;D

I would like to thank you folks for putting out the welcome mat, the people here are the best! Oh yeah, first time out was a great surprise ;D. I really didn't say that did I ;) I do love it. I plan to keep this one, I still have the first street bike I ever owned. It's a 81 cm 400, not a popular bike but I've done a lot of work on that one and it's fun to ride. Believe it or not, it will "Do The Ton" granted, I have to be flat on the tank with a good bit of road but it will reach that speed.
I got started on the tank today. Got the rust out and started sanding for paint. I need a little welding or a bit of lead on the side first so I'll have to fix that before I do much more to it. I have a small hole under the bar that the emblem was attached to. I removed both of them and will fill the trough's left behind and the small dents with Bondo.
