In the early 60s Honda produced chromed up bikes as promotional or rewards for dealers. The ones most commonly known were the trail C100s.
So. Here's a question for you guys who worked in Honda shops from (almost) the beginning. Did Honda ever, to the best of your knowledge, produce a chromed version of the 250 or 305 Dream.
The reason I'm asking is that a mate of mine has, what we suspect, is a factory chromed C71 (that's the dry sump) 250cc Dream. Now my mate is pretty cluey when it comes to early Hondas. He has restored VJMC award winning 1958 Dreams and Cubs. However the origins of his Dream are a bit of a mystery. He has closely inspected this bike and found that many of the chrome parts appear to be as they left the factory. That is, there is no evidence of dismantling and reassembling visible.
Hondas were exported to Australia from 1958. Perhaps this this bike was an Oz dealer promotion? Any thoughts?
Sorry, no pictures available at the moment as it is presently dismantled awaiting restoration
