1967 Super Hawk 305 with a SOHC 400F in her!
« on: January 07, 2014, 12:38:40 PM »
I have a Honda buddy in California that builds amazing bikes.. This is a 1967 Super Hawk frame, 400f honda engine, cb360 forks and sl 360 front and rear wheels. The forks are 33mm which fits the 305 triple tree he is going with the SL drum front brake to look more 1960's. Wheels are 18' instead of 19' which were stock on a 305 but want to get it a little bit lower then stock. He is trying to get the look of a mid sixties honda with a four in it.
This bike is Thing II, his 1st Thing was a CT70 with a Scrambler 175cc in it!

Amazing how "right" that looks.  Can't wait to see it all done.  Very cool idea.

I'll keep ya'll up to date on Grant's progress as he goes. This guy can build anything...street rods, bikes specialty parts etc...He had a Hot Rod on the cover of Hot Rod magazine back in the 80's....so he's as old as me (dirt) LOL

Here is Grant's first project "Thing I" it looks stock,  but of course the bulging 2 cylinder motor and pipes give it up as NOT!

It's a look like Trail 70 actually....Grant says it "rides beautifully with all that motor weight down low, and the wheel base spreadout a bit."
With the addition of the front forks being bigger MM's + a disc brake he can take it up past 80MPH AND stop very easily with good stability...

That's what happens when you stick a 400cc motor in and cut the pipes off before the mufflers.  Sounds bad-a$$.

He has mufflers he's going to put on it, but Grant just wanted a shake down run AND play a little "music" for his neighbors  ::)

How much fiddling was required to squeeze that engine in to the super hawk frame?

I believe is was just make up some motor mounts. He moved the motor forward a bit and ended up with some triming, and moving the engine .950 forward of the original top mounting hole. although the height of the top hole looks good for where the sprocket lines up with the swingarm piviot.
