Honda Rebel & Nighthawk 250's - top speed differences?
« on: January 08, 2014, 07:34:13 AM »
Does anyone know why the same motor supposedly gets the Nighthawk up to 80mph (rated), while the Rebel can only go 70mph (rated)? Is it the carb? Or just that one weighs less than the other?

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Nighthawk has more HP.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Yes, but why? Aren't the motors the same?

Is it the Rebel has a single carb? If so that would be a reason, or the main reason. Aerodynamics, weight, gearing.

The Nighthawk has a 37mm carb  (110 main jet) - the Rebel has a 35 (108 main jet).

The cams, the valves, the head, the pistons, the intake - all the same.

Of course the exhaust differs, too.

1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.
