CB500 or 550 as a starter bike?
« on: September 04, 2006, 07:11:26 PM »
I was kicking around the thought of buying another CB that is in ridable condition (or at least closer to it then my K4) to get back into riding as i rebuild my 750. I was thinking one of the smaller CBs may be the ticket be it the CB500 or 550. Does this seem to be a good idea? This is my return to riding so im kinda worried about winding up in a bad situation on the 750 if i rushed its rebuild  because i wanted to ride it right away.

I second the 550..  It has enough power to do what you need to do, but is small enough to be un-intimidating..

And less of a step up when i get the 750 on the street....

So now my search for a 550 begins...

You never know - you might end up prefering it to the 750 ;)

I throw a very biased vote for the 550.  It's been a great starter bike for me.
Actually runs --> 1975 CB550-K1
