tire recommendations CB500 Four
« on: January 13, 2014, 08:49:04 AM »
Finally got my new girl up on the table lift and got the front caliper unbound.  Tore into the master cyclinder.  R/H power switch looks to be shot although I'll be damned if I could figure out at 11pm last night how to remove the darn throttle cables so I could remove the unit...LOL.

Anyhoo, I'm in need of new tires and tubes.  Bike only has 6800 miles, but it hasn't been riden in a while and these tires need to go.  Also appreciate any recommendations on how big I should be going on width or is everyone sticking with stock widths.  I haven't owned a bike in decade so forgive the stupid questions...

If you are keeping the stock rims, use as close to the stock sizes you can get.  Metzeler and others still make the inch sized tires that the bike was set up to use.  3.25x19 Front and 4.00x18 rear, these have the proper aspect ratio.  Probably need to have your tire shop order them, though.  And, they will try their best to sell you whatever stock they have on hand.

Metric sizes are an approximate cross, and work ok when new, but have uneven wear issues during their useful life.  However, they are unlikely to give the superb neutral handling these bikes were born having.
