Topic: ooops . riding around with choke on?

So went for a ride last night turned on the choke and never took it off..I was riding in 3rd gear for a mile before I noticed. Did I damage anything??

Your plugs at least, they probably are fouled/on the verge of being fouled. would change them.

What model of bike. Never tried but I don't think any of my pre 1976 750's would even run down the road with the choke on warmed up. Barely use it when cold ,more like tickling it up and down while holding the rpm's up a little.
  Don't fret on it, little extra gas is all.

Im surprised you didn't get some seriously high revs when stopped.  (assuming you have the proper PD carbs)
With the choke pulled, the fast idle cam is engaged, holding your slides up....or in your case, not holding them up.
Best to get it working properly

Spark plugs will self clean if the mixture and cylinder temps are correct.  High power output makes the chambers toasty.   Whooo HOO!

Nothing wrong. The plugs I believe will self clean themselves. It happens to a lot of us. We forget things here and there. I once took off with the petcock off and the bike died. I thought to myself Oh shoot what the hell just happened. Turned it back on and laughed to myself.

Hah I'm a first time rider and I've done all that stuff already! It did rev really high when I stopped but I had no clue what was going on at the time. I'll go tear up the roads now

Better than running around with your reserve on.    It is a bad felling when you run low and go to turn the valve just to find that is already on

Probably better than driving the bike with only one working point as I did on a holiday in France long time ago. I had to drive 40-60km on 2 cylinders to a local HONDA shop where they could repair the point.

I did not see any damage on cyl 2-3 pistons/bores when I took the bike apart  23 years later. I think it was the left point that suddenly gave up. (Yes, it was an almost new Daiichi point ~4000km old)

If you could drive that long on Choke, it was not at max position?
I do not remember OEM carbs but my Mikuni VM29 cannot be driven on full choke. That is very visible and rich with much higher idle. Only possible the first minute when cold.

That is correct. I have a 78K also and we do have a fast idle cam, so you would have gotten high revs and crappy engine braking with high revs. I would check that fast idle cam and adjust if needed. It is a great feature.

I was riding one time, the fuel ran out and I reached down to turn on the reserve. When I did this I accidentally tripped the choke, which would not have ordinarily been much of a problem except at that same time there was an 18 wheeler passing me on the left. I lost power but I didn't know why. He was signaling that he wanted to turn right at the next turn. He slowed down to let me get ahead, which I would have very much liked to do but my bike wasn't cooperating because the choke was on. He slowed down more to let me know that he wanted me to go ahead. Eventually we came to a complete stop and I was able to wave him on.
