anyone knows John Neate (UK)?
« on: January 09, 2014, 12:07:23 PM »
he races all sorts of DOHC CBs and an RCB1000 too in UK...

reason i ask is that in November's issue of classic bike there is a story about the CB1100F racer he built.
He says there that the rear 18 X MT 4.0 wheel is of some 80's honda but I cant come up with what model is it from.
That's a very interesting size as it fits perfectly the new Classic racing 130 rear Conti's that need a relatively wide rim.

Design of the three spoke cast rim (not a comstar) is very much like that in the early "jelly mould"  CBR600/1000, but those had  17" last time i checked.
any ideas... or connection to the guy?

Looked at the pic in the mag (Nov issue) and checked specs for the 600's - all 17" from F1 on up. :(  Not a VFR either.  Looks like the front Dyna more than anything else.

It's not an F3 or F4 either as they went to a different spoke pattern.

I've got an 80's Interceptor rear wheel with a 5.5" X 18" slick. It's a little narrow for the slick so I'd assume it's around a 4" width. Would that work for your application? ???

The early CB1000 (1992) had a good size 18 on back. It had a 170/60X18 tire on back.

I have one on my dragbike off of a early Interceptor with the 5.5" slick. It is MT 3.50X18 and it works good for me despite what some say. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=120541.0

yep, looks like you found it.... didnt remember CB1000 had a 18", nice bit of trivia...  doesnt look like it will be easy to find a used one, that bike was always kind of rare.
