Their are a few dragstrips around me.
We have Route 66 (NHRA track) in Joilet IL.
Great Lakes Dragaway in ElCheapo land (Wisconsion)
Byron Dragway in Byron Illinois - and their is US41 in Morocco Indiana.

Never dragged a bike, but done my share with racecars in the past.
Spent more than enough time at the strip...

Ran bandimere for several years but got tired of the idiots there.  The other racers and some of the track personel.     Have run other places but nothing "full time"
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

I race a '56 Ford Victoria at Heartland Park in Topeka, KS; Mid-west Raceway in Manhattan, KS and then when the big Ford race comes to Kansas City, out at KCIR.  Best times at 10:83 @ 129.  Not to bad for a two ton car that we shoe horned at BB in.  The new tranny brake gets the front end about a foot off the ground.

Only raced my 66' CB72 Hawk (back when the big Honda was the 450 "Black Bomber" and the CB77 305 Super Hawk was next in line) in 68' at a drag strip on Misawa AFB in Japan. My younger brother built and raced a 68' Chevelle 2dr sedan in Arkansas quite a few years back. That's about it except for some back street motorcycle and car drag racing in my high school years. I'd like to give it a shot with a built 550 but, there aren't any tracks close by.

The car before my 55 was the 72 Nova below.
Tube chassis - 632 tall deck BB Chevy at 14 1/2 to 1 compression - Powerglide transmission - 9'' rear with 4:88 gears - 14 point cage - 4 link rear - etc.. At it's peak was a mid 9 sec car at the track , and was still able to put it's way to the local car shows and scare some people...

Been drag racing cars off and on since 1974, but never have ran the bike.  I have Wabash Valley Dragway about 30 miles south, Indianapolis Raceway park to the east 60 miles, US 41 to the north 90 miles, Coles County Dragway west 60 miles, ET Raceway south 90 miles, Muncie Dragway 150 miles east, Brown County is about 100 miles southeast, and last but not least New Hope about 70 miles southest.  We have raced at all of those except New Hope, it's just too far off the beaten path for me.

I am very fortunate to have so many tracks within a reasonable tow distance.  I am currently building a 67 Vista Cruiser as a street/strip car.  Soon I will be restoring my 70 4-4-2 and will race it in the pure stock races from time to time.

I love the smell of burnt rubber and race fuel. :P
