set off in D or L
« on: May 26, 2013, 10:24:39 AM »
just wonder how many of you use the L gear to set off then into D when you get going ,or do you all do what i do bung it in D & off you go.i am thinking of raising the gearing to give a more relaxed engine speed at 70mph so i will probably need to use low gear to set off

I almost always start out in L and then shift up to D. I also down shift when coming to a stop. This comes natural to me from riding cluthed bikes. In my mind it take alot of stress off of things but Im sure its not necessary.

my sister had a 70's honda civic with the same hondamatic  semi auto. it spat the dummy, (literally a big shot of oil hit the house one day , and im sure it was because she just used D all the time. i gave up telling her to use L first..

you COULD start of in d- but it seemed to put alot more stress on the car ..and obviously slower acceleration.
maybe not as noticable on the lighter bike.  in my mind its better start in L
