cb750 Rear shocks for dummies?
« on: January 12, 2014, 10:00:19 AM »
So this is humbling lol.
Has any shock savvy dudes here posted a nice how-to for servicing rear suspension??

Two specific questions :

1. How do I adjust the preload knotches at the bottom?
2. Can I shorten to 1" or remove the spring cover??
Id like to remove it.

1.) There is a spanner tool in your tool kit to adjust the load.
2.) You can shorten the shock with a add on aftermarket part.
3.) You can remove the spring cover, but takes either a spring compression tool or I do it with 2 people. You need to compress it and remove the 2 inserts on the top of that spring cover.
Good luck with your project.

From what I remember, you should be able to at least shorten the spring cover.  The top of the cover holds the two retainer halves in place, you need that.

I have ran them without the cover on a pre 1976 750 so yes they can be removed. You can also use a pair of channel locks and a piece of scrap rubber inner tube or such to prevent gouging to turn the bottom adjustment.
