No clearance with oil tank breather pipe 750 K1?
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:21:01 PM »
Just looking for some advice. I didn't notice when I pull the bike apart but now putting it back together and I noticed that the tool tray contacts the oil tank breather pipe. The tool tray has been sand blasted and painted as the is everything else but I notice that the bottom has a dent in it so it must have been in contact before. Can anyone tell me if this is a normal problem or what could be amiss. Nothing else looks bent or out of place and the oil tank bolted in perfectly.

I have.photo of when I stripped it down and the tool tray is bolted all the way down with no spacers underneath?

Wrong oil tank? Off a K0? It seems slightly different from mine in the slant of the filler cap, the position of the lower drain pipe, and the angle of the rear rubber sidecover mount.  Or maybe it's just the photos messing with me. On mine the tool tray does rest on the upper oil vent, but it doesn't have spacers or a dent in it.
71 or thereabouts 750 K1 - this one should have been put down

Looks like the tank is mounted crooked in the triangle. Notice the difference in the gaps between front of tank and frame tube vs. rear.
(pic #2)That would affect tank fitment and cause possible problem IMO.
I just looked at my k5 and the tool tray is very close, but doesn't touch the vent fitting/hose. Not sure what's causing your tank alignment situation. I'm no expert, so I won't go so far as to say a bent frame....Anyone?.......or like Henning mentioned, maybe wrong oil tank. I could be way off, just throwin it out there..

Thanks guys. I don't have anything to compare it to so I don't think there is much I can do about it. Appreciate the feedback though.

Can't see how the tool tray is mounted from the pics, but would it be possible to add spacers under it's mounting points just to lift it a little?

I have been looking at pics of oil tanks on eBay and I can't tell the difference. Good idea with the spacers. I was just trying to keep it original and trying to figure out the problem?

Visually I cannot see anything bent anywhere so I am at a bit of a loss.
