Paint match question
« on: January 14, 2014, 03:29:37 PM »
I was wondering does anyone know the equivalent RAL number to match the paint shiny orange yr26 on my 1976 550f as I would like to try the spraymax 2k if I could match the paint :),
RAL 2003 or RAL 2008 maybe?

appreciate any advice.

The 75 CB550 Orange was a Flake Sunrise Orange, RAL are solid colors and more pastel looking. I believe the factory color was a Candy Silver base coat, Flake Silver base mid coat and a Candy Orange top coat.

while you can't get the exact color from one can....I managed to get REALLY close to the honda candy blue-green using spraymax 2k, which I think was 3 colors originally?

I had to play with it, staring at color square sheets for days finding the "right one". then I sent the company I used a sample of nail polish that I liked and was the closest I could find. what the made and sent was wonderful. its not 100% but it's very very close. I'm not sure who you are using to get your color but I used 66autcolor.com and they were very helpful and friendly. I recently used them again for my second bike, and will be using them a third time this spring/summer

it can be done, but it's not going to be easy. the paint I got was metallic and had a good flake to it, it was not flat or pastel. I am sure that depends on what gets mixed though.

Good info Dream750. It seems in 1976 they changed to a solid non metallic "Shiney Orange"

Not sure if this helps you or not, but these guys mix stuff into those cans.   I haven't used these guys specifically, but I am a big believer in the SprayMax 2K for those that don't have a compressor.   It really is good stuff and if applied properly, there is no way you could tell the difference.

They offer paint chips so you can get a good idea of what it will look like -

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Thanks for all the replies folks including the links( very helpfull), the shiney orange on the 76 was a flat non metallic colour, so I'd like to give it a try,  just for the challenge. I'll talk to spraymax and see if they can come close to a match-

I do have some standard rattle can paint that's a close match but I'd be worried about using it even with a spraymax 2k clear cote...
