Custom oil tank, breather tube ? - CB750 K8
« on: January 15, 2014, 03:27:47 PM »
Hey guys ! I'm currently making a custom oil tank for my K8 and I'm confused about the breather tube and the ventilation of the tank.

Few questions:
-Does the rear crankcase fitting which receives the breather tube get any oil at all ?

-If yes, does the engine need that oil for something in particular or is it just an overflow ?

-If I vent the tank, can I plug the rear crankcase fitting ? (or maybe just leave it alone?)

Thanks !

It is not much about the oil but about where the oil ends.  You don't want the crankcase spitting oil on your rear wheel, do you?

The oil in the tube is minimal, but still you want that oil to go some place else, route it to the oil tank, if there was any other way, I am inclined to believe Honda would have done it.

Crankcase has to be vented, no way around it.

Ok, I guess I'll have to make a breather chamber in the tank then.

Thanks !

I just thought of something: what if I put an air filter facing upward on the crankcase fitting ?
