Nccb, nice pipes you have there.

A side note, I notice that your foot pegs mounted pointing forward when they fold up, I thought they swapped left and ride sides.  You might kick on it when use kick start.  But I could be wrong though

My passenger or rider pegs?  I do hit them when I use the kickstart, thought it was just having a big foot.  I haven't ever adjusted them since I bought the bike, do they look like they aren't positioned correctly?

Practical angle too. If the passenger foot pegs touch the ground during heavy cornering they will just fold up without problem. Passenger is hopefully relaxed and lift the foot.

I had one passenger many years ago that got panic when his foot peg touched the ground in a nice corner of a tricky country road with spruce forest just beside the road.
I had to press the bike really hard down when he tried to rise up....

........................I'm going to at least try to "roll my own" from sheet material..................

Very interested in this part if you do end up making some. I've seen at least two listing on the for sale forum for the stock headers with the mufflers chopped. I'm getting waaayyyy ahead of myself but I intend to pick up another project bike once I finish my K2 and I would love to have a custom 4-4 set using stock headers, somewhat of a stock+kerker hybrid. Mufflers folded round but angled/scissor style like the stock ones that use the same mounts. Something along these lines

Ted, what's the makeup of the pipes in your picture? they're dandy looking. Are they OEM headers? If so, were they dechromed? Shop-built mufflers? All particulars gratefully received.

I was just googling cb750 custom exhaust and saw this one. I have no idea what they are. They look like stock headers but slimmer custom mufflers (perfect looking IMHO). The header had to have been dechromed and painted/powdered over. I probably own the second worst set of HM341s (Nerdos' original set took the crown) but I must admit, the header are solid and its hard to hate them enough to pitch them out. If only someone can do the cones like this, I'd have a head start on my next build ;)

I got a set of later model 750 pipes to get rid of.

But if you are thinking of bending red hot headers I hear it is best to pack the pipe with sand before you try to heat and bend.

Stock headers may not need bending as they meet the criteria for the OP's intent to save both the stands.....or are you talking about bending new headers from scratch? Never heard of the sand trick before but mandrel bending machines were very popular on the TRD forums.

Either way its encouraging that cones aren't rocket science. My piece of crap exhaust purchase can be salvaged and I happen to know an outstanding welder. Just have to do some serious leg work and get the measurements and angles right. Perhaps as my build starts to come together, I'll do this on the side line. The real trick would be to get the rear foot peg mount and the header/cone joint precisely right.

Well, I've been looking at pictures, researching tube bending, stainless welding etc. and am beginning to modify my goal. For the moment anyway, I've abandoned stainless steel because of the intricacies involved. The current plan is to fab the whole thing from mild steel and ceramic coat the thing. Probably rattle can paint 'til I'm sure it sounds and functions correctly. I might try building a bender - not sure. To really imitate the original pipes will take probably 2 diameters of bend. Out from the head is a sharp 90 followed by a long bend which has compound bends in it - different on each pipe to avoid whatever's in the way. The mufflers, I think, won't be strictly reverse cone after all. The Originals are long and really don't have much, if any, taper to them. I might use tubing or might fab some loooong tapers. The backs of the mufflers have some flats and indents which might be tricky and I don't know how to mount up the glass-packed, perforated tube. I think it gets welded at the back and floats at the front - not sure. I'd like that thing to look good as it emerges from the muffler and be removable for repacking and/or modification. Not sure how to do that either. But still researching and rethinking. Using mild steel will make everything a lot easier to make and adjust. So far I haven't been able to find any 16 gauge 1 3/8" tubing though, which is the size of the OEM pipe and what I'll need to use the original flanges.

NCCB: Thanks again for the pictures. They were very helpful. Would you mind getting some measurements for me? I'd be ever so grateful. What I need are the distances from A to B, B to C and the diameters (excluding the weld flange) at A, B, and C.
