Name that clutch plate

Hey dudes,
Just poking around the clutch on my 550K3 when I noticed an component which isn't mentioned or shown in the Haynes manual.  See below...


It looks like two clutch plates, each riveted to a wavy-disc-spring-thing (WDST), which sits between the plates.  It appears that the WDST is meant to make the clutch feel "softer" by compressing when the clutch is let out.  Anyway, is this standard OEM issue?  There's a friction plate replacement in my future, and I wanted to get the story on this gizmo before pressing ahead.

Forget Haynes, consult the genuine Honda CB500/550K3 Parts List and discover there has been a modification.

Thats standard issue on the later model ones. You see them in the 77/78 750Fs like my bike . It's supposed to make the clutch "quieter". Typically it's placed in the center of the stack.
