1971 cb 500 candy jade green paint
« on: January 16, 2014, 12:17:06 PM »
The first new bike that a bought was a 1971 Honda cb 500.  The day I picked the bike up was a big day in my life! I just purchased  a 1971 cb 500 in candy brown and I want to repaint it in candy jade green (just like my original 71).  Where can I find the " exact  "  candy jade green paint?  thanks

Looks like the Honda color number is "KB"

https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/special-pages/bigfooter/honda/honda-color-codes.aspx

Not sure if that gets you closer to finding a source though.

I was going to say that it is probably not a single stage color and would need the proper metallic basecoat in order to replicate it authentically. Some of Honda Metallics are actually 3 stage colorsa with 2 different metallic layers before the color.

I used the VMR paint for a cb500 paint job.  I loved the paint and the color, but I do believe the color is a brighter shade than the original green.  It is a candy so you're going to have a silver base and then candy green over top so the number of candy coats are going to dictate the final color.  I went with the rec's provided with the paint for the number of coats and this is the color I ended up with.  If you could get more coats, the color may get closer.  Also, post-paint job I was able to get my hands on the actual, original side covers that came on my bike that had been separated from the bike for over 35 years (looooong story).  And comparing my paint job to the side covers you can see the difference (assuming I post the pics correctly.

More coats make all Candies darker each coat.

These honda colors are so beautiful but soo tricky!- I wanted to get my project bike sprayed candy garnet brown just like my other one. However when I tried to tell the sprayer about the silver base coat followed by the metallic green finishing with the brown he was polite but not keen to hear what I was saying and talked me into picking an actual colour that will always be available in a paint that I'm told wont fade from prolonged exposure to sunlight like the original does.
In some lights it looks exactly right but in different lighting it looks very wrong i.e. way too bronze

Try RS Bike Paint http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-us/colours.php?setlocale=true

They are based in the UK, but ship to the USA.
