You have not told us which exhaust your have and what type of intake system.
Extremely important.

Otherwise do you have the stock air box and stock air filter?

sorry about that - my oversight -

Stock exhaust - 4in4 - with baffles -
I have the stock standard airbox and airfilter (new)

not sure what you mean by " ... what type of intake system " I assume you are referring to the airbox and filter?

yeah, he meant like airbox/pods/stacks

Most important thing with attempting to diagnose this is to make one change at a time and note the throttle position not rpms. I'm not sure if anybody else has posted up on it but around 1/4 is the pilot, twisting thru to half is more influenced by the needle jet position, i.e. clip position

Main jet is last consideration
The dirty girl-1976 cb750k, Ebay 836, Tracy bodykit
Round top carbs w/ 38 pilots, middle needle position, airscrew 7/8ths out, 122 main jet
Stock airbox w/ drop in K&N, Hooker 4-1

Don't trust me alone with a claw hammer and some pliers

@bjbuchanan - okay great, thanks a lot  - I read (twice) the carby section hondaman's book about it now and it makes sense in conjunction with what you're saying.

I have now ordered two new condensers and once they are in, I then start again to hunt this culprit down, one step at a time.   ;)

thank you
:)
